Speakers - Your "Safest" Choice
What I did was shopped the market to get a feel for actual value, read all the reviews of the speakers in my price range and then shopped used so I could get my money back if my ears didn't hear what everyone else did.  I learned that when a revi...
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
stjernholm   Those Dali Epikore are special and imho, better than the Kore considering how amplifier friendly they are.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
That was a great pitch for ATC. well done sir.
What to ask when buying used speakers?
If the speaker works now odds are it'll work another 20, so do you trust a stranger with your money? There could be a damaged driver that's squawking outside of their hearing ability or it was a gradual thing they adjusted to and don't notice.  O...
Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
I’m late to the Mac party probably because I considered the brand snobbish. The current products I’ve heard are impressive for their price, power and sound. Not for budget shoppers, but definitely for anyone considering next level brands like krel...
Has anyone actually heard the Dali Epikore 11? Impressions welcome.
The way the 11's sound I agree is comparable to the Kore, but that they need less power to sound dynamic is why I'd choose the Epikore 11 over the flagship speakers If I could pick either pair as my endgame speakers. Now if they threw in a couple ...
Your method for discovering great music.
I love the Shazam app. I can snatch any song I hear anywhere to play at home. Sometimes I'll pick a single song to play on tidal and either roon or the tidal app, IDK  will just start loading similar music after my choice ends and I have history t...
Oldies that stick in your head...
Anything by J Geils band Redbone-Come and get your love. Basically, if you grew up during 70's am pop get the soundtrack to the first 'Guardians of the Galaxy" movie.
Anyone listen to Music on a FM tuner anymore?
Saturday morning flashback 9 to noon on xrt chicago.
Pink Floyd Aficionados
I tried streaming 24/192 both flac and MQA with a roon nucleus thru qobuz and tidal with a project pre box s2 digital, A mac c49, a pair of mc611’s to a pair of Kef Blades...There’s a bit of Wawa pedal shifting from channel to channel with the she...
What would your "perfect speaker" sound like.
Like a pair of KEF Blades with the Mac MC611’s driving them.
Thiel 2.4 Speakers & Krell KAV - 300iL
the pre amp of the kav300il is fantastic, but you are right about iy getting hot when pushed. I kept my kav and used it as a pre for a few years while using various other amps. I don't have experience with theil speakers so can't recommend an amp.
LS50 vs R11/7/5 Meta
15x45x9'!!! Even if the actual area is closer to 25' that's still a lot of air to pressurize. The problem I always had with subs is they didn't fill in the lowest octave of the male voice. The ls60 or if your intent is to stay passive the R7 or Re...
Nearfield listening - once more
I went to the hifi shop to buy a pair of 2 way stand mount speakers for late night low to moderate listening because my big floorstanders needed some volume to really jell. I hung out at the shop a few hours listening, talking to the owners and on...
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
I did keep the Blades, I had them listed on usam, but couldn't find anything else better, so initially I was going to buy a pair of mini monitors to compliment the Blades for late night listening. Instead I took a chance and tried a pair of Mc611 ...
