Different subwoofer at each corner?
I would cross them as low as your main speakers permit. I run my main speakers full range and use the subs to augment the bass. When I am using my Gamut L5s or Spendor S 100s I cross the subs at under 30 Hz; for my Spendor SP1s about 32. Some subs...
Tube Phono Stage vs Solid State What do you think?
As usual Raul is very positive and as usual I disagree with him. I just sold my Denon DL-S1 as I found my AT 33 EV to be better. My phono stage, the same ASR Exclusive that he warns you not to buy. I have a 2006 version which is the best I have ha...
What's more important: phono stage or amp
It is probably easier to find a good amp than a good phono stage but what Al said is correct.
Preamp-power amp interconnectors advice
If that is the case and you don't really like the sound of the pre then I would sell it and get another rather than trying to alter its sound with cables. Cables can alter the sound somewhat but not change the basic chacterstics of the unit.
Preamp-power amp interconnectors advice
I think you are expecting too much from the receiver; I would put the money toward a better power amp.
I NEED a tone control to control bass.
There was an article on this problem recently in HIFICRITIC and it was solved by isolating the speakers from the floor by an air suspension system. It is not sold over here and was somewhat expensive but you should be able to make up something tha...
Separate volume controls for left & right channels
In theory they are better, in practice I agree with Wilsynet; I had one and it drove me crazy.
Does anyone have a Bryston 4b-st driving horns?
A short answer : NO. I don't think anyone has ever accused Bryston of being warm and tube like. Their virtues lie in another direction, driving inefficient speakers loudly. They are though to be somewhat bright sounding by many. If you have horns ...
Integrated vs pre/power
Oh, your that crazy guy. I'll go anywhere you will except starting meaningless arguments; ther you rule unchallanged.
Gamut Speakers....Anyone? Hello?
When I looked at the M5s it appears to me that they are not the equal of the L series. They are actually cheaper and the cabinet work does not appear to be as good; square rather than rounded as the Ls are. Also the M5 appears to have the same dri...
High end speakers without bi-wiring?
If you have two sets of speaker connections you can still tune the system with single wireing by choice of jumpers and which set of terminals you connect the speaker cables to. I have found it is usually better to use the trebel posts but there is...
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain?
I use both methods and they both work, but do not sound the same. I have not had good results with rubber or Sorbathane [sp?] to the same degree. For instance when I took the rubber feet off VPI turntable motors and replaced them with small brass ...
High end speakers without bi-wiring?
Wilson and some Sonus Faber are single wired, I think the higher end Focal also; my Mini Utopia was single wired. I am sure there are others. Martin Colloms, among others, has suggested that single wireing is better in most cases.
powering two pairs of Dahlquist DQ10s
The wall is the right place, DQ10s should be seen and not heard! LOL You can power them both with the same amp IF it will handle low impedance loads. Running them in parallel will halve the impedance the amp sees, not all amps will be happy with t...
Integrated vs pre/power
Tpreaves, are you trying to start an argument? If so, why?
