Linn LP-12 still competitive with the very best?
I am not a Linnie as I did not buy one until this fall for a back up table. There are a number of people, such as Martin Colloms, who have heard most things and have top systems who still use the Linn so it must be competitive. As noted, the outsi...
RIP VPI TNT
The Scout and Scoutmaster use different materials from the older tables. It is not as shiny and is apparently more rugged. It was VPI that told me that the TNT had been discontinued so they must regard the HRX as a different model. It does not use...
worth upgrading from REL Storm to REL Storm III?
I have the Stadium 11 and Stadium 111 and there is not much difference in performance between them, if this is any help.
Proper Toe-in Configuration
If you listen alone I would try crossing the tweeter axis just in front of your listening position, but individual choice rules.
do you need to elevate interconnects?
I have seen Pierre from Mapleshade twist interconnects around and improve the sound. He maintains that there is only one correct orientation for each cable. However, I have never done this myself, I change my connections too often. But keeping the...
Opinions on Semi or Automatic Turntables
There is a Revox 790 currently listed for $429. You might want to check on it and see what cartridges will fit its arm. The reviews of this table were quite favorable.
Opinions on Semi or Automatic Turntables
Not at the highest level that I am aware of. In the past tables like the Thorens 126 and the Revox gave very good performance with automation. The Duals were also quite good. The small Technics linear tracking tables were surprising good. I have f...
Another powered sub hook up question
If your sub has speaker level inputs then everything is fine. I run my subs just like this. The sub will draw a small amount of current from the amp to run its internal amp but not enough to matter. There is no danger to your amp. If the sub has o...
What is a B&W 801M?
When I sold the original 801s I used the Crown SA2 [I think this was the designation], it would pulse 1600 watts at 2 ohms and it never felt like too much amp. B&W used the same amp at CES.
DNM interconnect cable
Try it. Many interconnect cables will work, VDH makes specialized digital but their First and Second interconnects work very well.
NM cable for speakers
Its 12, I think. One online reviewer , can't remember who, uses Romex for his speakers and claims it is great. I use short lengths for jumpers. Its cheap , try it.
Does biwiring change impedence?
He appears to be thinking of wiring 2 pairs of complete speakers to the same amp. That would halve the impedance. Al has it right about what you are thinking of doing. If I did it I would consider using bi- wire cable with 2 on one end and 4 wires...
Marantz SA7003 / SA8003?
A friend of mine has the 8003 and likes it very much, but I haven't heard it myself. He has Quad 57s driven by updated classic tube amps and custom hybrid preamp.
Footers - isolation or resonance draining
Try some Blutack or equivalent between two of the shelves since you are not using all of them and use them together and see if it helps. See the Star Sound site for their view on the first alternative you list.
What should be under my speakers?
I would try something like the Star Sound threaded feet under the speakers. I sell these so I know they are good but there are others. Are you trying to couple the speakers to the floor or decouple the speakers from the floor? If you are trying to...
