Dedicated Circuit with Two Prong Plug?
I have plugged two prong plugs into my conditioner in similar circumstances , I could tell no ill effects, I can't think of what they would be theoretically. I have often used cheater plugs to reverse 3 pin plugs to deal with grounding problems or...
Any Luxman VS-300 Vacuum pump experts out there?
I had problems with mine, took a long time to fix one and I don't think I used the vacuum on the second, And this was when they were current. My own advice would be to get a good record weight and investigate to see if anyone is making a reasonabl...
How is the power range determined?
Go for the amp whose sound you like the best and still has sufficient power. Herman is right about erring on the high side. Al has given you good advice also. Just remember that because 2 amps have the same power rating does not mean that they wil...
Integrated Amp - Looking to replace my amp & pre
I use the Musical Fidelity NuVista M3. They have several large integrated. If I were looking at the top of your budget I would definitely look at the ASR Emitter, it has gotten good reviews and looks very well built.
Weird Speaker Placement Configurations
You could try some of the computer programs that are now available; the main thing to remember is that bipolar radiators HAVE to be away from the wall. They also have a completely different and more complex radiation pattern than cone drivers. An ...
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
Sorry to have gotten irritated, I was upset at the idea that many manufactures are only concerned with marketing. I have known many , beginning with Sol Marantz and Stu Hegaman and by and large they were driven by considerations other than the max...
Cart Reccomendation for P5 re: roomate idiocy
I bought a Denon 160 new recently for $100. You might consider getting one of these again or one of the other cheaper ones recommended above and buy a VTA adjuster with the rest of your budget. VPI makes a good one, there are others available. The...
Set up problem?
To make sure it is the cartridge you might also switch the leads from the cartridge to the arm but this is probably unnecessary, just make sure it is not the interconnect (unlikely) by changing out the left for right interconnect , i.e. switching ...
VPI Scout cart pairing
Denon 160 is a high output MC that works well. I sell VPI and use it as a demo cartridge. Years ago it and the Dynavector were about the same price but the Denon is currently available for $100 or so. The Dynavector is also very good, probably a l...
Phono cables
Balanced cables of course uses XLRs, I should have said that.
Phono cables
The actual wiring is the same. Most arms use a special plug that fits into the bottom of the arm. However, you do not have to worry about that if you buy the VPI as they use a junction box that takes RCAs and let you use your regular interconnects...
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
I use the 103 and the OC9 , take a look at the Denon 160, higher compliance than the 103 and high output. Years ago this cartridge use to cost about the same as the Dynavector 10x mk4. Now the mk5 is $400 and the Denon is available for about $100....
Does preamp w/Power Supply need a good Power Cord?
Yes, it will make a difference. You can get an Oyaide cord for 2-3 hundred, I use them. Also use Siltech, Spirit Sound has some demos beginning at $60 for 1M. I didn't use them for years myself, but it can make a big difference.
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps?
C-J 350 has very good rep. Martin Colloms transistor reference amp
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
Its not your insults I mind ; its your stupidity. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I suppose you never heard of "speed" in a sub woofer. If all you are interested in is making noise then the HT set up you seem to favor is fin...
