ARC REF 110 amp ohms
I do not have one but logically it would depend on the impedance curve of the individual speaker. Why not try all three and see what you think with the speakers you have, there can't be that many others out there with this amp and speaker combinat...
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
There are many things I could say to socalled sogood but will stop with saying that I have been in audio 46 years, some of it as a Krell dealer, have 4 pairs of subs, none of which I would trade for any of his, and will end with what my wife told ...
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
Excuse me , but that is ridiculous. Some of the best and most expensive speakers made use 10" or smaller bass drivers. In the 60s no self respecting speaker had less than a 15" woofer, they now are extremely rare. Look at the DIY speaker sites and...
Wall mount TT shelf recommendations
The Target is good, I use to sell them, still have a couple of them somewhere. You will need a stud finder or good luck in installing it.
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
But the small cone has more linearity in its movement. It is fascinating to see the large driver/small driver debate return again after we all thought it was settled. When I was young the bigger the better was the rule, EV had a 30" woofer, Hartle...
8 Ohm speaker with 4 ohm subwoofer?
I have 2 REL Stadium subs and Al's explanation is correct from my experience of them. You have nothing to worry about.
Amps-Cables for Focal 1007 BE
For ICs try the Van den Hul The First Ultimate. One of the very top ICs , detailed but very smooth. Also one of the cheapest top interconnects, about $450 a pair new, often seen used for $200. Now in MK2 version, which I have but not broken in eno...
Reference/Test Cd’s
The soundtrack from SNEAKERS is good for setting up subs, recommended by Sumiko. Bass drum being hit repeatedly is good for positioning subs.
Dedicated circuit to the sound system
I would use 10ga wire, it doesn't cost much more and can't hurt. I would have him run two while he was at it. The better plugs are worth it, I would skip the protection circuit. Look at the Oyaide outlets, I would use them if I was doing mine now,...
Fremer/SSM w/Rim Drive
On the other hand, I have run into many people who praise highly equipment that they neither own nor have heard. In one case I had my subwoofers attacked by someone who had never heard them but who" could tell from the spec sheet" what they sounde...
VPI Scout "tweaks"
One that is cheap but that makes a considerable difference I just discovered tonight. Put Star Sound coupling disks under the feet. I had my Scoutmaster on the TNT stand resting on top of which was a 3" maple platform supported by Star Sound cones...
SME V Tonearm Mounting Help
Try Vinyl engine, they are the best site for this kind of info.
VPI Scout "tweaks"
I talked to Harry today and he said that current suppliers could only guarantee a 1/8 inch tolerance on a 2" sheet of acrylic, which might mean a 1/4" variation. I am using Van den Hul the First Ultimate metal screened ICs, they are a big step up ...
VPI Scout "tweaks"
Apparently VPI is switching to an aluminum platter for the Scout. What difference this will make I have no idea.
Amp for passive pre--more power or higher end?
It is beneficial to get an amp with a higher than normal sensitivity. My Meridian 605s only need .5 volt for full output and work very well with passive.
