RCA cable lenght
Let me expound even further on the subject. We apparently agree that in cables short is better than long. Let us further assume that if one is longer then the other can be shorter. We should then expect a degradation on the longer cable and an imp...
RCA cable lenght
Audiofeil, what I thought would be obvious to anyone, and I was clearly wrong, was that keeping the wires short would be a benefit that would compensate to some degree for any loss in the longer cable run. I suppose I shall have to join Galileo in...
Recommended components on Stereophile Magazine.
Remember that there is a wide variation in sound, you should try to determine what kind of sound you like and look for components that give you that. A 5 watt tube SET might be the finest amp in the world but will not work with the big Wilson's. A...
Do I need a record mat?
No, acrylic platters do not need a mat. The VPI tables don't use one , neither did the Basis Ovation I use to have. I do not believe the Raven tables two of my friends have use one either. The question of whether one would be of sonic benefit I wi...
Conrad Johnson Amp for ATC SCM 12's
If you can afford a 350 it is one of the best amps made anywhere. One was on here the other day for $4500. If I didn't have 8 amps already I would get one, my wife would kill me.
Do Old CD Players Require Servicing Like Amps?
If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it is don't fix it either unless very expensive unit.
RCA cable lenght
You can do it, you may get a little degradation but shortness of speaker wires will compensate for it. I have run ones 6M if my memory is correct, I used good cable and was quite happy. This is a vary contentious subject as you will probably see.
What does your motor controller sit on?
I use either Star Sound cones or Barry Diament type platforms under all my components including speakers. Makes a huge difference.
High power amp reccomendations, airy highs a must
One of the Musical Fidelity big integrated. They weigh about 110 pounds [separate power supply] and put out more power than you are likely to need. I have the smallest one , the NuVista M3, which is 275 into 8 about 500 into 4 and close to 900 int...
Anti Cables to join my system, are they enough?
I got some and was glad to get half of my money back when I sold them, I know several others who have had the same experience. HOWEVER, others swear by them. IF I was going to try them again I would just purchase magnet wire and make my own improv...
Cartridge Suggestions for a Black Widow Tonearm
Looking at the best test of the arm I have it appears that at least 3 different arm tubes were offered: originally carbon fiber, then metal , than carbon fiber reinforced by graphite fibers. The last is the one I remember as the mass was 4.25 gram...
Filling hollow tubes of my component racks
The basic question in my mind is how they act to damp vibrations. With very dense material of the smallest possible diameter the waves will be propagated to the smallest distance before being dissipated. I think that is how the "sound" of the mate...
Mcintosh C28 VS C712 Modern Vs Classic
No, I sold Krell, Classe and other things I wanted to use myself. They use to discourage reviews, look at old Absolute Sound and Stereophile mags and see how many Mac reviews you find. For years they use TRANSFORMERS in their transistor amps becau...
Mcintosh C28 VS C712 Modern Vs Classic
Mac owners tended to buy equipment and own it for years and not to be seen in HiFI shops looking for the latest upgrade. That part is quite admirable. The downside was that Mac, although usually very well made, did not represent the best value or ...
Filling hollow tubes of my component racks
I used cat litter in my Skylan stands but didn't really seem to do much so I took it out. I couldn't get the Star Sound for a long time because their supplier went out of business suddenly and they had to find another. I have not done a scientific...
