Anyone know the Mission 747 tonearm?
I use to sell them in the 80s. They are still a very good arm if in good shape. If I remember the only trouble I had was with the connection of the signal leads to the tone arm as they are soldered on. But works well and sounds good, wish I had ke...
Linn lp 12 upgrade or new TT ? please help.
Get a new, thinner mat. I forgot to say that I am ordering one. Martin Colloms, who has used the LP 12 for 20 years recently changed and said it was the best improvement for the price he has ever made. My Linn is also from the 80s and I am also ch...
Linn lp 12 upgrade or new TT ? please help.
I have a totally unmodified Linn, looked into upgrading it but decided it would be too expensive. I am also a VPI dealer so am familiar with their current tables. IF I was going to change tables I would go for a used Scout. But I would change the ...
HELP I need information about interconnects
They are never controlled by the volume control, as that would alter the recording level of your tape deck or whatever. You could insert a volume control at this point but I share Mofimadness's confusion as to what you are attempting.
Garrard 301 or 401?
I suspect that there are more users of these on HIFI Wigwam or Vinyl Engine, you might want to check them for threads or post there. Also Audio Asylum.
SS Amps that are NOT warm and euphonic ?
ML 3. I owned one for an hour once and can still remember the experience. Wonderful bass but the highs!!
No preamp 'Balance' control?
I do have a preamp, designed by Ben Duncan and built by Audio Synthesis, that has a remote and uses an optical system to change balance between the channels but I have never used this feature. I just this minute realized that the preamp I currentl...
MC Load Resistance
I had not used a SUT since the early 80s but decided to try one. I ended up getting a Bob's Devices Cinemag one. I was surprised at how good it was at a moderate price[$395]. I use a Blue Circle 707 which has enough gain without it. With it I can ...

That really is the truth; set up is up to half of the sound of a system. Since last fall I have made several changes to my system, new [used] amp, 2nd sub, and a newer version of the speakers I was using. Most of the improvement I have made, which...
untralinear or triode mode for dynaco mark three's
Amps have no sound apart from their interaction with the load they are driving so it is impossible to answer this question apart from the rest of your system and your individual taste and power needs.
The Downside to Dedicated Lines vs. the Benefits
LOL, Bigamp. Quick, name ONE universally accepted answer in audio. I have two dedicated 20 amp lines and usually try to separate the analog and digital. Despite having 2 BPT power strips I usually have too many of one to segregate them. Perhaps th...
Wool Rugs
I have had many suspended wood floors and two concrete ones and the latter are much better sonically. I am taking other precautions against a recurrence.

The best currently is HIFICRITIC. In theory I agree with Kurt, in practice the last thing I bought on personal audition was a pair of Fisher XP 10 speakers in the early 60s. Even when I lived in Chicago and New York in the 60s and 70s and later in...
Wool Rugs
The humidity level is high enough that I use a large dehumidifier. The rugs I was looking at were made with wool from New Zealand in the Netherlands. I assume they are machine made. Hand made ones are beyond my budget. I supposed they are made fro...
No preamp 'Balance' control?
Most of mine don't have one, at least one does. I had a preamp until this spring that had a volume control for each channel, it was a pain. I can't remember the last time I actually used a balance control. Certainly not since the 80s.
