I need your advice on system for a non-audiophile
A good start would be to look at something like the Audio Advisor or J&R site. Buying used would be the better deal by far but it took me 30 years to get a friend of mine to try this so I doubt if it an an option. Units that are being disconti...
AR highend equipment by Cello
My bad, although I began in audio so long ago that my first speaker [mono] was an AR 2, now I think of AR as being Audio Research and not Acoustic Research.
Swapping Tonearms on a VPI Aries- anyone?
Rauliruegas, one of his tables has 3 arms and the other 4 arms. I always thought he should name the latter one "forewarned", because as we all know, "forewarned is forearmed". Just kidding Raul.

Cello was Mark Levinson's brand after he left ML, I don't remember them being connected with AR but a lot of products that are announced or even appear at shows that are never actually marketed.
Swapping Tonearms on a VPI Aries- anyone?
I would consider the possibility of having an outboard mounting arrangement for a second arm. That would seem to be a better solution than constantly changing arms. I would get in touch with Harry or others at VPI and see if anyone else has ever d...
amp or preamp most important
I find that 2 channel works fine for home theater for me, but I am not a real HT fanatic.
Digital Outputs?
They are for use with an external DAC or other type of digital processor. For example the Meridian powered speakers will take a digital signal. If you are using it as a player into an amp by the regular analogue outputs you can ignore them.
amp or preamp most important
Tvad is correct. A bad preamp can screw up the sound but the best one will not make up for the deficiencies of the rest of the system.
Fixing a Broken NAD C320BEE
I have been in audio close to 5 decades and the number of GOOD repair persons I have known could be counted on one hand.
MAC Autoformers?
If it gives such great benefit why don't other companies use them? It is quite true that transformers are a mature technology so if they gave an improvement in this area it should have been seized on by many of the "cost no object" amplifier desig...
McIntosh and Brystons: Fair comparison ?
But in tubes, excepting OTL, transformers are a necessary and accepted part of the circuit. It is one of the virtues of SS that they are not required, what they are doing in Mac is a mystery in this day and age. Allegedly in the early days they we...
MAC Autoformers?
For us non Mac enthusiasts the autoformer has always been proof positive that Mac had no idea how to design a transistor amp, perhaps they are coming to their senses at last.
equating class A to class AB SS amps?
An amplifier is a tool to drive your speakers, select them first and the select an appropriate one that you like the sound of on THAT speaker. There are many factors involved, ghostrider has pointed several of them out. Generalizations about the q...
Isolation for a table for floors with movement
Another approach that I have read about but not tried is to isolate the speakers from the floor so the vibration never gets to it. Unfortunately the article that described how it was done was rendered illegible by recent water damage in my basemen...
Grace g-940 arm mount????
If you have an existing hole that would work at all I would use that. As you point out the arm does not know how big the hole is, it is held in place by the pressure from the top and bottom of the shaft, not the side. Use good quality washers on t...
