Sub Woofer Hum... This One Puzzles Me
Al, after having the Mac amps off all night, the sub is still making the hum noise.the AC plugs on the Mac amps are 2 prong polarized. reversing them using a non-polarized cheater plug did not change the hum at all. one thing i did notice is that ...
Sub Woofer Hum... This One Puzzles Me
@ Marakanetz... thanks for the suggestion - i've got some inexpensive IC's i can try, as well as a 'subwoofer' IC. i didn't bother messing with them as when i removed the IC entirely, the noise was unchanged. i will certainly try swapping a few to...
Sub Woofer Hum... This One Puzzles Me
thanks, Marakanetz. unfortunately piggy backing the mains isn't really possible in the current setup - is there any way to reduce the output resistance of the amp?
Power conditioning for digital gear AND tube amp?
+1 on Running Springs Audio... i use a Haley with tube amps and digital components - works VERY well.
Will An Attenuator Help Reduce This Hiss?
thanks, all, for the EXTREMELY detailed and technical feedback - this is a fantastic community. Ralph, the performance of your gear is exceeded only by your commitment to this community and your customers.Al and Kirkus, while much of your exchange...
Will An Attenuator Help Reduce This Hiss?
thanks for all the great insights, all. to clarify a few questions...the speaker i am hearing this trough is a Wilson Cub 2 used as a center channel. as ralph surmised, it is relatively efficient at 95 db.Al, great memory! yes, at one point i was ...
What Else Sounds Like A Wilson Watt?
@ Jfrech - watts are 5's that were upgraded to the latest tweeter / xover network. i'd love to go with a wilson center, but i'm trying to keep it to around $1k.@ blk25 - i've previously owned the cubs. fantastic speakers, but i prefer the watts. a...
Is it save to convert XLR to RCA?
al, thanks so much. your willingness to share knowledge and your time is very appreciated. sounds like the correct way to convert an RCA preamp output to XLR such that an XLR IC can be used is to connect pins 1 and 3 to the ground such as is made ...
Is it save to convert XLR to RCA?
Al, i am considering using an RCA-XLR adapter to convert the RCA output on a preamp to XLR such that i can use am XLR-XLR IC to an XLR input on my power amp (power amp can take either, but i only have XLR IC's presently). this is temporary until i...
Fastest subwoofer?
another vote for vandersteen... i've owned subs from velodyne, jl audio, and now vandersteen. the vandy subs get my vote for doing pretty much everything right in my room - my system is 2 channel audio only, not HT, so like always, YMMV.
Is no preamp the best preamp of all?
"Home cooked is live?"... depends on who's cooking!
Wyred4Sound Dac-2 vs Preamp and separate DAC
if the DAC2 gives up anything to a dedicated preamp, it's low level detail. i've been told that the sweet spot for the DAC in variable output mode is 50-55, which depending on the gain of your system, you might never reach. i've been considering a...
W4S DAC1 & STP-SE vs. W4S DAC2 as digital frontend
i agree with face, but feel it is also somewhat conditional. yes, there will be a difference, most notably with low end detail. BUT, this is somewhat dependent on the amount of gain present in your system. if you can run the DAC2 at around -15 to ...
Amplification for Wilson Watt Puppy 7s or 8s
i've used wilson with tube amplification - atma-sphere and VAC... both sounded fantastic. i've also used SS - levinson and pass (XA.5) and prefer tubes with wilson. i'm currently running VAC and it's OUTSTANDING. the best i've had in my room.
Wilson WP 7 with Air Tight ATM 211
+1 on the VAC / WP pairing. i've been running these for a few months now and am extremely impressed.
