Update on VPI and classic rock lps
Sns, One other thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet. Not to state the obvious but these classic rock recordings were all mastered by people who intended for them to be played loud. Don't kill your ears but make sure the volume is high e...
correct zerostat technique
Thanks for all your responses. I think the variety of replys underscores the confusion that exists on the use of the zerostat. In the end, it seems that the technique suggested by Sharpnine is working best for me at this time. Maybe that will chan...
VPI Scoutmaster Upgrade
I might consider the super platter as the next step. Not cheap but it will make a diference in what they refer to as PRAT. After that, go for the rim drive if you want to try something else.(will be available for scout master soon I believe) The 1...
Patricia Barber MFSL 180g LP or SACD?
Both actually. The music sounds dull and lifeless on the mofi 45 and the vinyl is surprisingly noisey. On the other hand I have both the CD and SACD and both sound excellent on my system. As I said, I can't speak for the Companion and Nightclub LP...
Update on VPI and classic rock lps
SNS, You don't have to eat crow as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad you're enjoying these more. Some will sound better than others to be sure but I listen on a SSM with 10.5i and rim drive with what I consider to be great results 80-90% of the time....
Intriguing world of Analog
Papajoe, If you've been reading this forum for a few months I think it's safe to say you have a strong interest in vinyl. It would surely be too boring for anyone who didn't. I would encourage you to give it a try. You'll likely find it addictive....
Patricia Barber MFSL 180g LP or SACD?
I have to say go for the SACD. I haven't heard these two titles but I bought the 45 Modern Cool by Mofi and it is really awful. I'm not the most picky on sound quality of music I like to play but this one turned me off of any Patricia Barber LPs. ...
Those simpler times.....
Adam18,I totally agree with you on this. I grew up on records and no other medium takes me back to those times like vinyl. I really love the audiophile habits in general as well but you have to remember to stop fretting once in a while and just li...
lps sound bad
It's true, the only way to know what a given LP will sound like is to play it. 1st pressings and good stampers guarantee nothing. Tom Port states this on his site. Luckily I enjoy most of the pressings I've found. Part of the fun is in the hunt.
classic rock lps on VPI
Thanks Tvad. I may have to do just that.
Feickert Adjust+ Tool
Let us know what you figure out. I'm not real computer savy but I would like to try to learn to do this if it works well. It sounds like a promising idea. Maybe adjust + works on the same priciple with a more convenient user interface?
lps sound bad
Thanks for adding your input Tom. Your site is what has inspired my to do just what you're recommending here. As I said, I will likely buy more from the site in the future but it's too pricey for me to justify building a large collection that way....
VPI rim drive new feet
Mred,When I talked to Mike at VPI a few weeks ago concerning the rim drive he offered to send me the softer feet which he did. He also mentioned that they were working on a proprietory drive belt for the rim drive made of softer material which sho...
Feickert Adjust+ Tool
Restock, The DMM I bought at Radio Shack happens to have a laptop connection with software included. Would this eliminate the need for the filter? How would I make/find a 1 Khz fiter?
classic rock lps on VPI
Tvad, I was taken with the Wally tractor and many of his tools after seeing the Fremer video as well. I orderred about $500 of equipment from him in person which he said he had in stock. Unfortunately, 3 months latter I still had no merchandise fr...
