The Great Cartridge Shootout
How about walking into a brick and mortar store you trust and let them save you the aggravation, shipping, delays, etc?
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
Like Millercarbon said, old things tend to go up in value due to rarity and collectability in our throw it out if it's broken society.Technologies that get perfected incrementally are what you want. Just like 911s get a little better all the time,...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
It should not be noticeable AJ. I had a problem with minor buzz/hiss with the volume on at normal volume without music from a few feet away and it went away completely when I got a power conditioner.Of course I use SS - not sure about tubes, but I...
turntable recommendations
@stantheman2 - you never mentioned your phono stage. Did you compare the P8 with its fantastic arm to the Feickert? It would have saved you a few bucks. Glad to hear you are hearing an improvement over the RP6 which is not surprising.
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
waste of time....KISS
Cartridge reliability
I had a van den Hul MC One Special (2nd from the bottom of the line) for about 2500 hours and the stylus lasted until is completely wore out and sounded consistent the entire time I had it.VPI just took over distribution of them and were a pleasur...
Power Conditioning / Surge Protection
Appreciate all the EE arguments.Reminds me of college boring lectures.Keep it simple...where are you going to plug these things into? Certainly not a power strip.  I have a Furman 15 and it does the job. It protects the equipment and has tons of o...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
If you want to be an audio equipment hobbyist and tinker with extra things to worry about, then tubes are for you if you think they sound better. I think they heat up a room and tend to not have enough power. It all depends where you draw the line...
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
What kind of arm on the Planar 3 vinylvalet?
High end stereo preamps? Worth it?
Glad to hear Pass agrees with me. Now if I could only afford any of his equipment....

Vinyl Accessories - Skip It or Buy It!
mijostyn - I've always been told to keep the dustcover off while playing albums. As a matter of fact, the newer Rega P8 and P10 models can't play with the covers on. I noticed on my old P5, it sounded better with the dust cover removed while playi...
Cartridge recommendations under $2500
I second the van den Hul MC ONE SPECIAL recommendation, although I don't know what "warmth" means. It is very detailed and accurate. It doesn't add or subtract much. Lousy albums sound lousy and great ones sound great.  It's now distributed by VPI...
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
Percentages are meaningless. No one is talking about the phono stage. Critical part of the equation. Arm is most important. I had a P5 and upgraded the RB700 arm to the RB880 and was BLOWN AWAY. Then upgraded the table to the P8 which was nice, bu...
Am I out of my mind? #obsessed
I too have a black 911 and high gloss piano black speakers. I don't touch the speakers and never put anything on them and tell the cleaning people to stay away from any equipment, cable, speakers, etc. Also, I don't look closely at them or I would ...
