opinions on manley chinook
There was a thread earlier this year that involved the Chinook. Seems well thought of in general, but I think a few people said they much preferred an Allnic unit by a pretty good margin. Not sure of price difference and I've not heard either, but...
Montana Speakers? Have they fizzled out?
Maybe take a look at Liberty Audio. Peter has a new amp there that sells direct and may be in your price range, and obviously it should have some synergy with PBN speakers since he builds both. Doubt it would add any warmth though if that's what y...
Outdoor speakers
I did a little research on this for a friend a while ago, and I recall coming across some Definitive Technology outdoor speakers that seemed to offer a lot for the money. Might be worth a look. Best of luck, and let us know what you decide on and ...
Best sounding Hybrid Integrated in $2000 range
Think you might be doing this a bit backwards, especially if you're considering going the all-tubed route. Some speakers need power to open up fully, so it would be a shame if you went with something like the Rogue CM and end up with speakers it c...
Downsizing my system from tubes to an integrated
Might want to add the Rogue Sphinx to your list. Nice review of it in The Absolute Sound this month. Should work well with your type of music, and the tubed input stage may give you at least a taste of the tube magic you're used to. Reviewer bough...
Best sounding Hybrid Integrated in $2000 range
Nice review of the Rogue Sphinx in this month's The Absolute Sound. Sounds like it has the characteristics you're looking for, although it only has a MM phono stage. Seems like a good deal at $1295 ($1395 w/ remote), and fwiw the reviewer bought t...
Aerial 7T/6 vs Vandersteen Quatro/Treo/2Ce Sig II
"I am unable to audition Treo/Quatro/5A with the Vandy dealer that is close to my place."That's sad. Also, not to be judgmental, but powering $10k - $15k speakers with an Emotiva amp???"I want speakers that disappear when I listen to music. Large ...
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
I keep coming back to the fact that you really like the sound of your current pre and amp, so it seems a shame to let that go. There is an option between 1 and 2 you stated above, which would be to keep your pre and add an AVR for processing/cente...
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
Yeah,I'm with the others who said it's highly unlikely you'll find a prepro that will not be a letdown from your CJ preamp, and any one that might will likely be on the expensive side. Sounds like 2-channel is your greater priority, so why sink $$...
What speakers work best with electronic music?
Would help to know what amp you're using, but I'd consider looking at some studio speaker makers like PMC and ATC along with some horn-based speakers as mentioned earlier. Best of luck.
$10-15k speaker - Revel Salon2 / Usher BE-20
The Revels are great speakers, but I'd think they may be a little analytical given your tastes. Maybe the Ushers a little less so. The first speaker that came to mind given your criteria is the Acoustic Zen Crescendo. Vandersteen 5 would be a good...
Best setup for two subwoofers.
Interesting post. I assume since you've got one DEQX you're not running your subs in stereo? Is this something you've considered doing? Just curious.
DAC Recommendation around 2.5K
Too bad you need USB 24/192. There's a Bel Canto DAC 3.5VB for sale here at a little above your price target but likely negotiable, but pretty sure it requires a USB converter. Very positively reviewed against some of the best DACs out there so st...
Affordable Newer Speakers
What aspects of sound reproduction are most important to you? Dynamics, imaging/sound staging, bass, etc.? What is your price range and other associated equipment? Definitely decide on your speakers first and then find an amp that will get the mos...
I know, there is no 'best', but...
Relatively speaking there are few prepros that are at the level of a good stereo preamp. While those few are no doubt very good, what are the odds that it would be best for you and your system/tastes? And, IMO, the preamp is one of the most critic...
