2 Channel Sub Woofer, 1 or 2 Sub-woofers?
Not to hijack the thread, but a related question I've been wondering for a while is if it came down to getting one very good sub vs. two decent subs for similar total cash outlay, which would you choose? Let's say one $1000 sub or two $500 subs?
Considering new amp - Mccormack
Brownsfan makes a good point -- it might be the modded McCormacks that have a lower impedance input.
Considering new amp - Mccormack
I believe the input impedance on McCormack amps is on the low side, so first you should check to see if they will work with your SF preamp. I would think you would get a more refined sound out of the McCormack amps, but no way to know if it will b...
Paradigm Studio 100 v.3 vs, v.4
I assume you mean the 100s vs. the 60s with a good sub? I'd say if you're using a sub you could save yourself even more dough by going to the 40s. Anyway, since the 40s, 60s, and 100s probably sound quite similar from the lower midrange on up, I w...
Paradigm Studio 100 v.3 vs, v.4
Just realized I answered this purely from a 2-channel audio perspective since we're not in the home theater forum area. Considering this looks like it'll also be used for home theater I think the idea of mating 60s with a sub makes a lot of sense ...
Paradigm Studio 100 v.3 vs, v.4
Mdrummer makes a good point about room size. With their considerable bass output the 100s could easily overload a room that's not big enough. Also, you'll need to sit a good way back from the speakers so the sound from the multiple drivers integra...
XLR interconnects?
I found the neutrality and exceptional imaging capabilities of the Stereovox Colibri interconnects to allow Bryston gear to really show its outstanding 3D imaging capabilities, and probably your Gallos too. Don't look for it to add warmth or fulln...
Recommendations for a "mid-fi" digital coax cable?
The Apogee Wyde Eye would come in well under your budget and is detailed yet also smoother, more liquid and full sounding versus some of the more detailed and analytical digital interconnects I've had in my system.
Which budget digital cable ?
If you want to hear absolutely everything the Stereovox is a great choice. If, however, you'd prefer something a little smoother and fuller sounding the Apogee Wyde Eye is also an outstanding bargain.
Anyone know anything about Soliloquy HiFi 5.0's?
I had a chance to compare the Soliloquys to the B&Ws and the 805s sounded anemic and sterile by comparison. Of course that's biased by my tastes and associated equipment interactions at the dealership so take it for what it's worth. I've never...
Amp for Soliloquy 5.3i floor standing speaker?
That you're asking for advice for alternatives without giving us any clue as to what you thought of the sound with your Jolida makes your post most unhelpful. Very common on this site and very frustrating for those who would really like to help.Th...
Speakers for HT/2 channel
I think ATC would be an excellent choice. I've found ATC's midrange to be extremely clear, accurate, and powerful, which makes it an outstanding performer for HT purposes. About 10 years ago I heard their 100s along with their center channel speak...
Upgrade bug has hit, interested in Pass Labs Amps
Why do people have a need to frame the importance of individual pieces of audio equipment as a mutually exclusive argument? The fact is that in audio every piece is important, and to claim that getting one right is most important is useless. If yo...
Upgrade bug has hit, interested in Pass Labs Amps
Speakers first. They'll make the biggest absolute contribution to the sound you hear in your room so make sure you get them right (obviously electronics are also hugely important to what you ultimately hear, but the differences tend to be smaller ...
Best Bookshelf/Monitors Speakers? Suggestions
Someone mentioned Totems, which I forgot to mention before and think is an excellent suggestion if you can find a dealer to audition.If/when you go hear the Ushers and are concerned about synergy with your amp, why not take your amp along and have...
