streaming source Another vote for Qobuz. I started with Tidal last year, but then Qobuz offered a hi-res subscription for $15/mo. that I tried and never went back to Tidal. As far as I’m concerned, Tidal can keep their MQA. As a picky audiophile I’m more than h...
best budget amp/preamp for B&W 805 D3s I have only $1k budget for a new integrated amp.Uh, the spec you left out re: the H390 is that it retails for $6k. Has your budget changed that significantly?
Rhythmic or Hsu Just curious, what wasn’t working with the Vandys? They’re supposed to be great subs, especially for music.
Power Conditioners Agree with others that a cheap power conditioner is probably not worth your $, and this area is very unique to each individual’s household power situation and system. I’d buy a good used conditioner you can turn around and sell for little/no loss ...
Wireless cans, over the ear As a general rule I don’t trust BoseGood call. The HIFIMAN Deva with planar magnetic drivers (like Mobius) just came out and may be worth a good look. They’re open back, but they should be highly detailed and if my HE400S are any indication there ...
My Sonic Saga Travel as far as you have to and go listen to as many systems as possible until you find something that sounds good to you and start there. “Bright” is generally a negative descriptor that connotes too much treble energy, so maybe you mean you li...
Suggestion for speaker cable for aerial acoustics 7T Love this hobby, as long as it does not burn my wallet.Ha! Leave now before it’s too late.
Question on streaming, ripping etal...... I don’t see why ripping music so you have access to all of it instantly in any order you wish (or random) without having to get up is a waste of time. Is constantly having to get up, look for, load, and then get up again to remove a single CD from...
Mcintosh Equalization Pull speakers out for serious listening and push them back afterwards. That’s what I did when I had space restrictions, and it costs nothing. There are products from Herbies, etc. that make it easy to slide speakers while improving isolation.
Rega, Totem, or KEF bookshelf speakers? Given the characteristics of those speakers and factoring in limited power I’d highly recommend the Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus that can be had $699/pr. new. Best of luck.
interconnect suggestions Yeah, I think now’d be a good time to see what better interconnects can provide, and I think you’re going to hear some tangible improvements given your system (nice system BTW). How much to spend is such a relative and personal question I don’t h...
MHDT dac...and which streamer/server? Hard to see going wrong with the Zenith. I’d consider going with the Audio Mirror Tubadour Mklll SE over MHDT. @teajay just reviewed it very favorably on Stereo Times, and it replaced the Orchid as his new reference DAC. Either way I’m sure it’...
Integrated amplifier help I’ve heard Andy Pryor uses Gryphon amps (among others) to voice his speakers and that he himself is partial to Gryphon, so that might be something to consider. Someone is selling a nice Diablo 300 on USAudioMart that could be worth a look. Best ...
Can't get digital signal from iPad? Not even sure if the 30-pin connection outputs audio at all. You might need to use the 3.5mm output, but that’s just a guess.
Small Office - Wilson vs B&W vs Kef Congrats on the new speaks, and glad you’re enjoying them! Don’t know your personal tastes and what specifically you’d like to improve upon, but if it’s me I’d take a hard look at a used Hegel H300 that has plenty of juice and will likely blow aw... |
