How do you know if you are upgrading your DAC?
You can try an Audio Mirror Tubadour SE Mklll in your system and send it back if it’s not an improvement.  My bet is the 205 will be sent to the trash instead.
Buying a DAC when you can't try it first
I'm planning an upgrade path and leaning toward getting a DAC like the SMSL SU-9 or Cambridge DACMagic Plus and running the CCA optical through the new DAC.No.  Just no.  You have a $5000 tube amp.  Time to put the $50 CCA and the $550 CD player n...
Hi end tube preamps, it’s all about functionality!!
Warning — we’re dealing with about 258MB of RAM here.  Might be kenjit’s roommate.  Participate at your own risk.  Peace out.
What should be my next speaker - the never ending question
What would you like to improve upon over what you have now, and what aspects of sound reproduction and speaker performance are most important to you?
Class A or AB Solid State Integrated Amp for Spendor D9's - Coming from Tubes
I think you’ve got a pretty damn fine list and not sure you could go wrong with any of them.  I’d only add to the confusion and suggest putting Vitus on your list as well.  Or maybe a hybrid like Unison Research Unico where tubes only in the input...
need a better sound source?
I think you might be pretty happy with the Dragonfly into the Cavalli, which sounds like you haven’t heard yet unless I’m reading this wrong?
So you have a great hi end stereo preamp, but
I figured it out.  OP is really Dory from Finding Nemo.  Ugh.
Streamers sans DAC?
Innuos Zen.  Lumin.
XLR balanced cables, best bang for t ht e buck?
Audio Envy or used Acoustic Zen Silver Reference.
Any high end preamps out there where tubes off while HT in use?
Not sure, but I think Rogue, Backert, and maybe VAC might have that feature.
need a better sound source?
The Dragonfly is ok — I use a Dragonfly Red, but with your amp and ‘phones you will be rewarded by investing in a better DAC.  If you give us your budget and share what sonic properties are most important to you I’m sure you’ll get some excellent ...
From Audio Research ref cd player to what ? (Cd Transport, streamer, Dac.....?)
Too many of my friends sold their CD collections and transports to go streaming/server way, and chopping and changing them and the software to get some satisfaction, and in the end have lost their passion for music and audio.I went the streaming w...
From Audio Research ref cd player to what ? (Cd Transport, streamer, Dac.....?)
Is it better to buy a streamer as I don’t have thousands of cd’s? But what ?Yes!  I’d highly recommend an Innuos Zen Mk3 streamer/server as it’ll allow you to rip all your CDs right into it and also start streaming — no transport (or computer) nec...
Phone to receiver, or streamer?
As long as you use a music provider like Qobuz, etc. that provides full CD and hi-res audio you should hear a significant improvement over compressed Bluetooth (assuming your speakers are up to the task). You can use the DAC in the Node or use its...
Advice on near-field speakers (eg, Raidho X-1)
You had two of my top recommendations on your list in the Pulsar and W5.  I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss the JAs if you like them as I’ve seen Jeff make them work very well in small hotel rooms by placing them such that they straddle the corne...
