Had Three Different Speaker Thoughts; Now A Fourth
I’m looking for imaging and soundstage, coherency, presence, smooth solid bass, dynamic and fun.Given this I’d recommend saving a ton of hard-earned $$$ and try a pair of LSA-20 Signatures available here from the manufacturer for only $2299/pr. Re...
Amp recommendations for Hifiman HE1000 V2
I have the Hifiman HE400S so am somewhat familiar with the house sound, and if I’m you I’d be looking hard at the Singxer SA-1 amp. At only $599 it’s a fully balanced, Class-A design with plenty of power and exhibits the sound qualities you’re loo...
Suggestions/experience with a speaker/headphone switching/output box...
I’d think if you hook a headphone amp (with a volume control) to the fixed preouts on the receiver that’d work.  When listening to headphones just turn the volume all the way down on the receiver, and when you want to listen to speakers only just ...
Anyone hear the Class D Audio Mini GaN 5 amp yet?
If should be obvious that GaN does not guarantee better performance. It is obvious — that’s the reason for the original question.  Got anything less obvious and maybe even interesting to add?
Had Three Different Speaker Thoughts; Now A Fourth
Thoughts?Well, you’re considering a monitor with concentric dynamic drivers, a floorstander with a horn midrange, a quasi-ribbon dipole panel speaker, and a more conventional floorstander you already own but you’re gonna swap out drivers and someh...
Amp recommendations for Hifiman HE1000 V2
What’s your budget?
Revel Performa F228 Be speaker... thoughts?
For your tastes it sounds like Harbeth would be a very good choice.  Others from your list that fit well with your requirements would be DeVore, ProAc, Dynaudio, with Spendor and Sonus Faber as other potential possibilities.  If I’m you I’d tend t...
Newbie question - dedicated headphone amp or is my McIntosh MA352 sufficient
Headphone amps in integrateds are usually a bit of an afterthought, and McIntosh doesn’t specify the headphone power output of your amp in the specs, which would lead me to believe it’s nothing special — could be wrong though.  The HE1000s do requ...
Seeking lower cost alternatives to Berkeley Audio Design Alpha USB converter
I guess it depends on how critical performance is, but the Singxer SU-6 looks to be of good quality and is quite a bit cheaper than the Berkeley at $690.  Best of luck.
Best 5.1 options under $5k
Sealed subs generally sound more clean, but they do have somewhat of an artificial sound to them (a very slight slant) where it almost sounds like a sine wave.  Uh, what?  What the hell does that even mean?  Have you been drinking tonight?  Jeez.
Best 5.1 options under $5k
In my opinion, the SVS are okay but they are not the greatest resolution speaker. The best speakers I know of in this budget level are the Elac Debut Reference (DFR52, DCR52, DBR62). The SVS will sound a little dull in comparison to the Elac Ref...
Best 5.1 options under $5k
I think looking at SVS is an excellent idea.  They offer very good performance and value along with outstanding customer service, and their center speaker (crucial for good HT) is superior at the price point IMHO.  If this is strictly for home the...
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
It’s probably not much more expensive to run two dedicated lines than one, so I’d run one for analog and one for digital for the dedicated audio only. I wouldn’t bother with the A/V stuff — just get a good power conditioner with surge protection w...
Alternative to SMSL M400 DAC?
Yeah this seems like a tough ask, especially at this price level.  I’d spring for something like a Singxer SU6 Audio Bridge and just get whatever DAC sounds best to you.  Best of luck.
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
Since your Denon has preouts, all you’d need to do is connect the front L/R preouts from the Denon to an input of your choice (or HT Bypass if it has one) on the stereo preamp and that’s pretty much it. Choose that input on the stereo pre when you...
