Amps Here’s a fun anecdote. I always left my McCormack amp on because it didn’t burn a lot of electricity and it was always warmed up and ready to listen to whenever I wanted. Also, I noticed that light bulbs tend to blow out mostly when I turned them ...
diffuser or absorption panels, which would you choose? @lemonhaze Very interesting info. Thank you. @bpoletti Who knew fake ficus trees could be an audiophile tweak? I wonder if real ficus trees sound more natural and provide more air? Heh heh.
World's Best Stereo System ?... I have to say those were two interesting video clips for two very different reasons. The first didn’t give me a lot of technological info but I got some really good demo music material along with the basics of the system. The second clip I found f...
Network optimization for serious streamers When turning the wireless off in the modem/router there was a noticeable jump in performance. How does one turn the wireless off on a modem/router. Apparently we’ve found our newest troll. xaxxon is to digital as kenjit is to speakers. Ug...
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments It is mostly a matter of the detail in the music getting lost when a lot of things are happening at the same time. Is placement going to help with that? Yes. And it’s free! Again I ask, how far are your speakers out from the back wall?

Emotiva or Anthem or Something Else? This Hegel H190 has both excellent detail and soundstage so might be worth a look… https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649941652-hegel-h190/ That said, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Yammy either.
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments How close are your speakers to the back wall?
How much should I spend on a new DAC @adg101 I’m glad you’re happy with your sound, but I’d suggest trying this R2R DAC, and if it’s not a big improvement just return it. My bet is it’ll be very interesting if nothing else, and my bet is you keep it. Like Wilson speakers it excels at...
How much should I spend on a new DAC I read all the hoopla about the r26 upon its release. Obviously this is Gustard's way to go with the flow as to not miss on any sales. I get it. However, in my system and room, the r2r ultimately did not give me the clarity that I get from my vin...
Network optimization for serious streamers @ghdprentice Have you considered trying a mesh system instead of an extender? Several people here seem to think it sounds better. Just thinking could be something to try, and if there’s any improvement it’d be a very cheap upgrade. Love to hear ...
How much should I spend on a new DAC I’m not up on Roon, but pretty sure the Innuos can be used as a Roon endpoint so there may still be a benefit. Maybe someone else can chime in here? @baylinor I know you like your X26, but with the Ares you’re comparing a lesser R2R DAC so not s...
The problem with absorption panels- it kills the fine details Sounds like you overdid it with the panels. I’d start just treating first-reflection points and see how that works and maybe some diffusion behind the speakers. A careful mix of absorption and diffusion seems to be key.
How much should I spend on a new DAC Your biggest bottleneck is probably using the computer as your source, and adding a good streamer will make a huge improvement and probably more than upgrading your DAC. That said, for around $3k you could add both this Innuos streamer and Gustar... |
