Moving to separates
Thanks for clarifying — that helps a lot. Since you listen to multichannel music I’m gonna reiterate my recommendation for the McCormack amp I linked above, and for only $800 I’m confident you’ll hear a substantial improvement over the amps in you...
Moving to separates
I do need video so an integrated amp is not in the cards. You would still be using the AVR for video/multichannel and the integrated would take over for stereo, and you could toggle between the two with the push of a button.  But if you need/wa...
Recommendation for an HDMI cable under $200 for audio only
I’d second the DH Labs HDMI 2.1, but this one from Wyred 4 Sound also looks interesting and worth a look.  The key is to keep it as short as possible because i2S degrades quickly with distance. https://wyred4sound.com/products/hdmi-pcocc-premium ...
Upcoming Trip
I’m not a big Sony fan, but these get high marks for both sound quality and for noise cancelling, which will be important on a plane.  I’d compare those to the Momentum 4 to see which is best for your needs.  Focal headphones have spotty reliabili...
Jesse Colin Young has passed away.
“Get Together” is one of those seminal songs from the era that just instantly takes me back to my childhood, and it did so again today.  RIP.
Innuos Zen next-gen vs. Pulsar for streaming...?
It doesn’t help that there just seems to be very few reviews of any of their newer streamers, especially from review sites/mags that I at least consider to be reputable.  Nonexistent as far as I can see.  Frustrating.
Moving to separates
If this is just for HT I wouldn’t bother unless the AVR just doesn’t have sufficient power, which it probably does. If it’s at all for 2 channel then get a stereo integrated amp and run the front L/R preouts from the AVR to the HT bypass or other ...
Tubes and less sensitive speakers
If I was you I’d strongly consider Atmasphere’s GaN amp (no affiliation with the company BTW).  You’ll get a lot of the tube sound with solid state bass control and none of the tube hassle, heat, or expense.  I think you can even do a trial period...
Tubes and less sensitive speakers
I thought I heard Atmasphere amps can work well with Maggies but could be wrong.  Worth checking or maybe @atmasphere can chime in.
Need recommendation for repair service in CA bay area - McCormack DNA-1
@mike_in_md  OP said he already checked the fuses.
Help needed to make system better, please
What specifically do you mean by “thicker sound?”  Do you mean something like greater tonal density in the mids or fuller bass, etc.?
Will a high quality preamp really make a difference in sound?? Also speaker cable
You could bi-wire with these and they’re a screaming bargain and may help tame brightness a bit as well. Hurry, at this price they won’t last long. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650194860-acoustic-zen-satori-shotgun-biwired-speaker-cables/ ...
Help needed to make system better, please
Given the sensitivity of your speakers and the power of your amp it’s hard to fathom you lacking slam or dynamics.  I would first try an LTA MicroZOTL preamp (they offer a trial period) to see if that gives you some added detail and meat on the bo...
Speaker or amplifer
In looking a little further I found these specs from the Sonetto v g2 Stereophile review… The Sonus faber loudspeaker's voltage sensitivity is specified as 89dB/2.83V/m; my B-weighted estimate was 88.6dB(B), which is within experimental error of...
Getting started with Headphone system; what are the basics
I know the LTA HA products are integrated but I wonder if I could go with separates to find a new role for my MicroZotl. I don’t understand this statement. Your LTA is an excellent headphone amp and you’d only need to add a source and headphone...
