System advice
Octave always gets stellar reviews with the caveat that, especially for tube amps, they have a relatively neutral sound.  If that’s what you’re looking for Octave is obviously a strong choice, but at those prices there are probably other options a...
Do I need a headphone or speaker to appreciate high-end DACs?
Assuming you have good headphones driven by a good amp you will certainly notice significant improvements with a much better DAC.
System advice
I think the Octave has plenty of tube magic, but the only question is if it has enough warmth as it tends to sound more neutral.  The Octave won’t sound thin or sterile by any means, but If you’re looking for an amp to add warmth it may not be you...

@chrshanl37  The Arya Stealths are great, but if it’s at all possible I’d recommend stepping up to the Arya Organics that are actually close in performance to the HE1000SE, which is a big step up for only an extra $275 IMO.   Read the review of th...

@chrshanl37 I’ve had the Arya Stealths for over three years and really like them. Very neutral and natural with nice out-of-the-head soundstaging. The bass isn’t overly hard hitting (I hear the newer Organic is better with that) but it’s definite...
Comparing speakers at home questions
When going back and forth I often notice I hear differences best when starting from my one set of speakers, going to the new ones AND especially when going back to the 1st speaker. @dynamiclinearity  Big +1 on that.  Forgot to mention that earl...
Comparing speakers at home questions
Both. When I was reviewing speakers I’d listen to the new ones for a while and end with a song I knew well that contained the sonic characteristics I needed to assess a speaker across many parameters. In my case that was Keb Mo’s “Muddy Water” fro...

Streamer Advice
Buy used.  If I was you I’d jump on this immediately.  It’ll smoke any Node and you get Innuos’ excellent Sense app, which is not a small consideration.  https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650191677-innuos-zen-mk3-w-linear-power-supply/ Best of ...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype
Brought to you by the UK division of ASR.  OMG, it’s Amir with a British accent.  Love the way he glosses over the power supply and output stage and doesn’t even broach the subject of the clock, galvanic isolation, etc.  This is a prime example of...
System advice
Yeah the way they listed the specs was confusing as they listed output as “low” and “high” that I didn’t realize was pentode or triode.  I’d have no reservations in pentode, and it might even work in triode for most music/situations.
System advice
Don’t know what PA is.  I love Octave and would own it myself, but at 75 Wpc I’d be a little concerned if it has enough power.  Also, from what I’ve read of Octave their house sound is on the neutral side as tube amps go but that may work for what...
Need recommendations for high gain/small footprint class d amplifier
I hold Bel Canto amps in high regard.  Here’s one that might fit the bill… https://www.ebay.com/itm/135585206696 Best of luck.
Choosing a preamplifier - synergy vs. matching components
I’d put the amp in your system first, let it burn in for a couple hundred hours, and then see what you think.  If the amp, say, adds just enough warmth then adding their pre may be too much of a good thing.  Wait to see how it sounds and then see ...
Svs sb17-ultra for music
Absolutely get two subs.  For the same price of one SB17 you could get two Rhythmik F12G subs that will go just as low as the SB17 — no integration software though.  Alternatively, you could get two SB13s for $400 less than one SB17, and I’d defin...
