Help me build a Theatre system for $5000
I setup a $5,000 system for someone not long ago, although this system included a projector and yours will not.I would step up one model on the Onkyo, why not...you have the extra cash. I used the Onkyo 805 in the setup I did, it seemed very nice ...
the paradox of accurate speakers
Accurate is a loose term, and it needs to be, for many reasons. One reason is acoustics which play to large a role in what we hear when music is played back in our listening rooms.Even the same "accurate speakers" sound quite different in differen...
Any experienced Projector users?
I setup a budget projector for someone a few months back...the picture was outstanding, and lens shift was outstanding also. I needed a 19ft throw distance for this setup...ceiling mount.Sanyo Plv-Z5:http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sanyo-PLV-Z5.ht...
Bass--How much is too much?
I like bass, I agree with John though...many people play their subwoofers way to loud for the reason he gave. My systems are always fullrange (or at least very close to it). I could never be fully happy with any stereo system that can not do at le...
VonSchweikert VR4JR vs Magenpan MG 1.6
Do you have enough room to setup a pair of dipoles correctly? If not, I'd pass and stay with boxes.I'm a panel guy myself, however...I would go back to boxes if I did not have a room large enough for proper placement of my dipoles.Dave
How isolated is your hi-fi?
My room is dedicated...but not isolated. It has a music system, hometheater system, and computer. It's also a good place to read...and dance, (mostly, the grand kids do the dancing, and we do the watching....age 2 and 9).We have a TV in our living...

"popping" when moving to balanced cables on Amp
" I always recall that my audio system had some type of minor pop" when turning it off, but this is much, much louder"Well, you do have more gain using balanced connections...6db, I think? Dave
What are your favorite music genres?
I can listen to almost everything, really no favorite for me...more of a mood thing, or....depends on what I'm doing thing.I will say that I'm not much into most rap music, To much talking, not enough playin.Dave
Opinions on Aragon 4004MKII?
I think it's a good amp. Though, If it were me...thinking about some sort of amp upgrade for "your" system:I would put tubes on the mid/HF drivers, and move the Aragon to the woofers. Your crossover point between the mids and woofers is low enough...
whoom instead of BOOM
The large VMPS subs are another option...at least a pair, four would be even better in your room. You can order them active, or passive, I'd go passive myself.Dave
Poll.....what size is your room?
Congrats on the new room Chad...always exciting for an audiophile to get into a room, where the WAF is not more important than acoustics. You should do well in this room with a little tweaking. Looking at the pics of your old room, I'd say nothing ...
Poll.....what size is your room?
My room is 25'x 23'x 9'....speakers are setup using the CARDAS setup method for dipoles.Dave
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions
"(got any "rock" speaker recommendations?)"There is a pair of Altec 19's for sale at the audiocircle forum. My "rock" speakers are an older pair of VMPS Supertower/R's that I bought brand new...ten years ago.Dave
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions
I think you went wrong in a couple of areas:1. Speakers...those were "NOT" rock speakers.2. Rock amps...if, after your research... you come to the conclusion that you need 50 watts, buy at least 100....150 is even better.I rarely listen to hard ro...
