Are you operating in the correct SPL window for high-fidelity listening? @budjoe Good that someone else pays attention to listening room noise floors, I rarely observe anyone paying attention to this. There are means to lowering listening room noise floors, attending to this means lower volume levels required to hear l...
Network Acoustics ENO filter I don't understand the duplication of filters when you already have the JCAT net card. I also use the XE card in my custom build server, absolutely no need for further net filtering. You can improve the XE further with external power via LPS and n...
Best way to dampen a micro-vibrating Printed Circuit Board inside an amp? Thanks! You'd have to dismount from chassis, support with sorbothane or some other substance. My previous pre, Joule Electra floated board in like manner.
Improve RFI As previously posted, a Trifield EMF meter is indispensable for finding sources of RFI. Routers with wifi the worst, hard drives and transformers can be pretty bad.
Are you operating in the correct SPL window for high-fidelity listening? Depends much on ambient noise level, lower levels mean one can hear deeply into recording at lower volume levels.. I'm late night listener when ambient noise levels generally lower, so 70's is my usual range.
Great recordings with great harmonies from 1960s Brian was greatly influenced by "The Four Freshmen", they are good. "Peter, Paul & Mary" , "Seekers", "Simon & Garfunkel", "The Vogues", "The Tokens", "Anita Kerr Singers", "Ray Charles Singers". These just some of the great harmonies Bria...
A controversial takes on low cost speakers with a lesson... I doubt a curious budding audiophile going to learn much from this, I'd hope they discovered what this guy discovered far sooner into the journey.
Tube preamplifier lifespan Parts quality likely biggest variable, amount of heat generated also important, heat enemy of parts reliability/longevity. My pre uses DHT so relatively low heat, has two chassis, one for power supply, other signal path.
the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile Perhaps I've always been an audiophile, even as a kid some of my attention focused on sound quality. My best buds quad Dynaco setup with Linn LP12, this accompanied by light shows and ingestion of various substances was my gateway. My own earl...
Goal Zero Yeti 500 I had similar experience to bigshutterbug, and this also in comparison to my balanced PC.
Ethernet Wiring I stay away from long ethernet cable runs, longest is 1.5m. By having ISP modem located in listening room, no muss no fuss install, all cable runs short and sweet. Don't care about the long run of ethernet for the whole house router.
Darko nailed it. 12 examples of wishful thinking in the hi-fi community @newton_john In my post I stated taking some issue with the digitization, and a preference for all analog. I agree its far from a disaster.
Ethernet Wiring @cleeds All remarks not directed specifically to you. Just curious, you state you have modem and router, so how do you provide wifi? While you may not be using wifi with any audio streaming components it still affects your network. I also use...
Darko nailed it. 12 examples of wishful thinking in the hi-fi community I take some issue with No. 7, I prefer my vinyl remains all analog.
Ethernet Wiring @cleeds If any of those other components require wifi I'd rather not have them in my audio system. I run my home theater and every single wifi device in house off 'dirty' side of local network. Clocking/timing/synchronization also important f... |
