Walk-in soundstage I'd never even attempt, to do it at level I'd want would be so costly!
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? The Pass read very interesting, never heard the analogy to air argument previously. . My earliest references for audiophile sound quality was Audio Research with Maggies and Dahlquist DQ10, this and the Dynaco ST35 with Dynaco A25 at the other en...
Walk-in soundstage I get the hyperbole, he just means to say holographic. In order to get walk in ss one would have to be immersed in one, multi channel, surround sound could provide an actual walk in ss. With reviewers one has to learn to read between the line...
Anyone heard from Charles1dad ? Yep, I miss him, both of us Univ. Michigan grads/fans and he's into 300B just as I am. Perhaps the most gentlemanly human on the audio forums.
Last Critical Tweak… how to quell occasional high harshness…? Very rare for Duelund 16ga tinned copper to be called harsh, yes, I've seen a few reports but generally Duelund products natural timbre. On the other hand 16ga is rather thin gauge for speaker cable, may be emphasizing upper mids and highs. I...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? EL34 certainly has the natural mids, highs can sound a bit rolled but I found various methods to solve this. Bass was the one area I found EL34 a bit wanting, sometimes a bit soft and warm, never could get impact AND tuneful, articulate bass. Sure...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? Finally had a good listen to the Tektron Bendix 6094 mono blocks pp. So we finally find a pp tube I can really appreciate, tonally balanced, refined, resolving, transparent, dynamic. In comparison to my 845, two 300B mono blocks this a contender....
Electrical question @jea48 Correct. microwave on opposite phase from dedicated circuits to audio system.
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? I use data especially when matching speaker and amps. For instance, at first glance it would seem any flea powered SET would be fine for my 103db efficient Khorns, but upon closer examination there are two impedance dips down to around 3ohms and 4...
Electrical question I monitor voltage 24/7, 120-121 constant, 1200 watt microwave 116v, microwave and toaster oven together 112v.
The Accidental Tweak EMI/RFI contamination could be downside of cover off. I have trifield meter, certain closely placed components could give off relatively large amounts of EMI/RFI, transformers are notorious for this, mu-metal shielding around these.
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? @kevn I've experienced any number of sound stages over the decades, this both from my own systems and others. It's been a long term migration towards SET and horns, simply my preference at this time, could change somewhat as I continue to experime...
??? Where Does "High End" Start ??? Intention and sound quality are the arbiters of high end, not name brand or price. I've heard many systems over many decades, high price and brand name don't necessarily result in high engagement factor. Many boutique manufacturers out there, inte...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp? @kevn There is still plenty of differentation and or uniqueness amongst recordings, this includes sound staging. Still you can't get past inherent or a static generalized pattern of sound staging with any particular system, therefore, my system wi...
Why don’t more members post their systems in their profile? The photos aren't the important thing, its about the equipment, this isn't a beauty contest. This all about context, actual experience counts, this why members should maintain past as well as present equipment on virtual system list. |
