A principle guiding the wise audiophile life
Optimizing means everything matters. And if this not true, tell me what doesn't matter? Some things matter less but they still matter. For instance I don't know how operating systems for streamers became part of this discussion, but for Roon optim...
Upgrading DC Cables for Linear Power Supply
@rtilden If you're speaking to me I'm loathe to give advice on specific isolation needs. As mentioned previously I've experimented with a wide variety of isolation devices over the decades, I've chosen specific devices based on the exact voicing I...
Is there a ROON sound?
This is exactly what I and some others have been saying, Roon and every music player app has it's own specific requirements for use of streamer resources. Roon consumes relatively high level of cpu resources due to it's intensive and complex user ...
What is your audio axiom?
Appreciation of the performance, together with sound quality of system and recordings is not mutually exclusive. To presume music appreciation transcends sound quality of our systems and recordings is to diminish audiophiles and our pursuit of SQ....
Ice fans for listening during warm/hot days
@russ69 This what I do. I also never use fans when listening, I'm a stickler for maximizing  lowest possible ambient noise floors.  I also run low power SET amps and DHT pre, these aren't the space heaters more powerful class a/b SS, class A SS, p...
What exactly is critical listening? Who does it?
@mapman +1 This is more what critical listening means for me, critical listening is listening with great intention, again, critical doesn't mean judgement. On the other hand, analytical listening mode is intentionally judgemental, you are listenin...
What exactly is critical listening? Who does it?
Correct, critical doesn't necessarily involve judgement. I mentioned in another thread how in recent years more focus on qualities of the recording itself. Producers/engineers play a major role in bringing us these works of arts, I've learned to t...
What is your audio axiom?
This idea of unique and/or individual recording quality variation is something that has really come into focus for me in recent years. I derive enjoyment from the nearly endless variation in recording qualities, by this I mean paying attention to ...
How close are you to being to your endgame? My system outline and I'm almost there.
@pindac I agree 6sn7 tubes can have relatively large impact on sound quality, have a stash of NOS from when I was running push pull amps. Have RCA black and grey plates, have to look into the Brimar.
What exactly is critical listening? Who does it?
Critical listening is necessary if one is to progress, also necessary to have a knowledge base/listening encyclopedia in order to obtain a reference or references as a goal. I spent far larger percentage of listening time in critical listening mod...
How close are you to being to your endgame? My system outline and I'm almost there.
I've been lying to myself, this time for over a year. While my purchases/changes have drastically dropped off in recent years, I now somehow seem to be the owner of Audio Note Quest 300B monoblocks. And I'm already in planning stages of bringing i...
What is your audio axiom?
I continually fool myself I'm done upgrading or changing things, don't know if a 'true' audiophile is ever done? Just purchased another SET amp to add to the collection, don't need it yet somehow I find myself the new owner of yet another audio co...
Upgrading DC Cables for Linear Power Supply
I used Revelation silver dc cables in another setup some years ago, they are nice but I'd never claim anything in audio is the 'absolute best'.
Upgrading DC Cables for Linear Power Supply
I use a variety of isolation devices to get the exact voicing I'm looking for, I keep an excess of devices, never know when I'll need a particular device. On cheap side I like the spring devices you see on ebay, you can remove or add springs as ne...
Why the huge increase in the price of Sonus Farber Amanti G5 speakers.
Here's something to get  some people's dander up, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLtzSSOexw0&t=308s Danny at GR Research and Sonus Faber.
