Quicksilver Contact Enhancer I've done a lot of experimenting with the Quicksilver, yes, it does sound brighter at first but over the long run the brightness disappears. Over long term use I've noticed no changes in tonality. Some might say I'm just getting used to the added ...
Another band to snub your noses at Jan, I didn't mean to say the vocals on the cd, I meant the vocalist himself. High pitched and whiney sounding at times, he is an aquired taste.
Another band to snub your noses at Jab, you can find Pavlov Dog cds at Collectors Choice Music, www.ccmusic.com I like the band, the vocals can get on my nerves at times.
arguments against starting a vinyl collection? I am currently right in the middle of rediscovering the joys of vinyl again after spending 20 years with digital. At this point, very early in the vinyl game, I feel as if I wasted 20 years and tons of money on digital.Recently, I finally purchase...
Rolls Vp-129 with Dynavector 10x5 There is not enough gain to use with that cartridge. I tried a Sumiko Blue Point Special with 2.5 output, not nearly enough with the Bellari.
Good tube integrated for Merlin speakers? I would be very leery about using the Art Audio, and perhaps any amp with volume control sans preamp. I wanted Joe Fratus to install a volume control on my Carissa, asking about my preamp (Joule Electra LA-100 MK.III), he advised against it.I susp...
Good tube integrated for Merlin speakers? I've been running an Art Audio Carissa Signature for going on a couple years with the VSM-MM w/ superbam, absolutely no problems with power delivery. Plenty of slam, bass is filled out very nicely, refined mids and highs. I beg to differ, SET's ca...
Mike Smith of the DC5 r.i.p. "Bits and Pieces," one of the 'heaviest' songs of all time, what a revelation to a young innocent! I remember Korvettes, I believe it was E.J. Korvettes, an even cheaper ambience than Kmart, sort of like the local SS Kresges!
Can a Thorens 165 tone arm be replaced? Yes Tobias, that is correct. I've modded my mounting plate by grinding a bit off the mounting legs, lowering the height, but still a bit off. Grinding off anymore will bring about mounting plate/plinth interference. I wanted to install a Riggell V...
Can a Thorens 165 tone arm be replaced? You should be aware that when replacing with a Rega arm, VTA will not be within specs using these aftermarket mounting plates. You will have to use shims on the headshell and/or thicker platter mats. Some claim VTA won't matter much, I beg to diff...
How do I get my soundstage back? I have essentially the same room setup, I've found you can't put anything with that much height between speakers without losing soundstage. My equipment is now on very low racks (24" max. height) behind the speakers. I bet SS would be even better ...
The most important link in the chain... The weakest link could also be the listener.
The most important link in the chain... I agree that all links are pretty much equally important, one more link, as Myronk eluded to, the power feeding your system is as critical as the others. And then we can add those damnable cables, IC, speaker and power. It goes on and on and on.
Your First Concert was..... The Iguanas, a local band from Ann Arbor, Mi. This was at a sock hop at Ann Arbor Pioneer HS, probably circa 1965. I was all of 12 years of age, helping lug around equipment for the band as my sister's boyfriend was the bass player. The lead singe...
Are bad rooms keeping the hobby alive? Absolutely correct! I've improved my system's sound greatly with proper speaker placement and room treatments, much greater improvement than many of the equipment changes I've made. |
