lps sound bad
Sorry, meant Tom at Better Records, not Don.
lps sound bad
Viiu and others, to reiterate, while I am new to vinyl, I am not a dummy. I electronically set azimuth, I have all the tools to perfectly adjust cartridge on tonearm, I know all about VTA, VTF, compliance, cutting head angles, cartridge specs, ton...

Artemus, I am not saying cds sound better than vinyl, I agree, lps generally sound better than cds. However, the fact that some of my remastered cds sound better than my 'original' lp recordings is evidence these particular lps sound like crap.Som...

Xiekitchen, I never said anything about Yes albums, not even sure I own any, do have remasters on cd, not that bad.I also agree that Selling England sounds much better than Wind and Wuthering. I still stand by my first Traffic album sounding prett...
Black Sand Silver ref v Audio Magic
I saw your post some time ago, and now notice the re-post. I have never heard the Audio Magic pcs, but I'm presently running a Black Sand Silver Ref Mk.V with Wattgate Silver connections on my preamp. I have used various pcs over the years, some w...

Viridian, I have the same issues with digital. Its just that with all the hoopola surrounding vinyl I expected more, unmet expectations are a real letdown!I also expect that if we were to hear the original master tapes of many of these recordings ...

Stingreen, you mention Dark Side of The Moon. Yes, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, earlier Elton John, my Traffic albums, early and late Fleetwood Mac, some Fairport Convention, and some others sound pretty damn good. Examples of crap sounding albums incl...
Amp Stands, Butcher Blocks Etc.
I have all my equipment on multiple low stands. Low stands are best for equipment placed between and behind speakers, best isolation and minimal inteference with soundstaging and imaging.I have my amp sitting on an Ultrasonic custom made acrylic p...
setting azimuth on VPI turntables
Sonofjim, yes, the adjust + is what I was referring to in an earlier post. From what I can gather, the perfect azimuth adjustment can change from record to record, depending on how it was cut. The Adjust + allows one to make azimuth absolutely cor...
incognito rewire-sonic improvement?
I have a Rega rewired with the Incognito, and I also have the VPI arms with both Discovery and Valhalla wire. In my setup the Discovery wire on VPI is more rolled off than the Incognito wire on the Rega. My Incognito wired Rega with Pete Riggle st...
Rethinking Listening Fatigue
I agree that your power is the first thing to look at. Why, because you seem to like your sound sometimes, ie. variable power or recording quality sounds like the culprit. First of all, no power conditioner is perfect, they all have their own soun...
setting azimuth on VPI turntables
The only thing I can think is that the cartridge is at fault. If your output is equal on both channels, crosstalk measurements should be pretty equal as well. I would expect with cartridge manufacturing tolerance variance you will likely never get...
Rethinking Listening Fatigue
I agree that the vast majority of contemporary cds sound terrible, the main reason I buy very little comtemporary music. Even some of the recently done remasters are starting to sound way too hot for me. The recent box set about Electra Records is...
Rethinking Listening Fatigue
Beyond recording quality variability, which should be quite obvious in a high resolution system, I've found a strong correlation between quality of AC and good digital sound. I suffered from listener fatigue from time to time until I resolved all ...
Idea to reduce RFI
My experience with using amps on isolation transformers is that they do suck a bit of life out of the music. Lack of attack and smoothed over sound. I've tried probably a dozen power conditioners with amps, none have worked thus far.I did use Bybe...
