The "Snake Oil" Trope
I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm surely not saying cable are snake oil, or am I saying all premium cables are not deserving of premium price. I've only been continually making the point cables sound different from one another in my experien...
SET the best?
I'm willing to entertain the thought class D amps could replicate SET sound qualities at some point. Based on comparison reviews I've seen, not there yet. I admit the AGD amps had me intrigued. Class D would have the advantage of cooler running an...
SET the best?
Someone mentioned presence earlier in thread. I started off many years ago with ss, then class A ss, next push pull tube, finally SET tube. My first SET was 845, smitten with sense of presence, could also be called immediacy, right from the beginn...
Free Shipping - Be Careful!
An undelivered package won't be covered by credit card company if seller can prove they shipped. Doesn't cover delivery services.
Free Shipping - Be Careful!
Just assume free shipping is always USPS. USPS has been a disaster for me over the past year, lost well over $400 on various packages. Also, free USPS has minimum insurance, if items have any value, never use free shipping. Regardless of shipper m...
Friend given a Revox open reel and Tascam 4 track - suggestions be we power them up?
If not run in some time, should be powered up with variac. Caps could be dried out, may need reforming. If diy, capacitor kits sold at various vendors.
How to get into high end digital? (Feeding a DAC)
Typical if you can't measure it differences can't exist arguments. And so, recently placed audiophile network switch between router and NAS, server. Sound quality decreased, router with lps feeding NAS and server superior. Rest of network chain po...
Still happily using vintage gear?
I have several older pieces including Dahlquist DQ10, stashed away, plans to restore, upgrade, Thorens TD160, many, many mods. Harman Kardon T60, outboard power supply mod,  Conrad Johnson MV-55 modded with Jantzen Z Superior caps, 1986 Klipshorns...
Capacitor
The only somewhat negative experience I've ever had with caps we're talking about is once when I used multiple VH Audio TFTF in totally modded phono stage. Too much of the sterile, clinical sound with multiples of that cap. Would have been better ...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
I really doubt Gustard plays in same league as 005, likely more in Okto dac8 range. Still, any comparative reviews would be good to help ascertain 005 place in hierarchy of dacs.Bypassing usb could be good thing if theoretical advantages of altern...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality
You're experiencing the value of network optimization. Streaming should sound as good as cd rips or cd's over transport if one has network in order.
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
That would be good. We really need comparative reviews of 005 against Holo May and dacs above Holo price point. I previously owned Okto Dac8 stereo which was comparatively reviewed against Weiss in Stereophile and did relatively well considering t...
The "Snake Oil" Trope
Having built a number of audio systems over the years, I've experienced and observed why cables are perceived the way they are.I start builds by first choosing speakers and amps as a package. This is both the most critical stage of building system...
Capacitor
I consider the odam very reasonable cost cap, if sq as good as grannyring says, incredible value. In the whole scheme of things $300-$400 not bad. Loudspeaker crossovers with their much large impedance values, and prices, makes electronic cap mods...
The "Snake Oil" Trope
I've always heard differences between cables, even when I had relatively lower resolution systems. I auditioned tons of cables through lending library at Cable Company over a period of years. Minimum price was around $1k for any cable up to max pr...
