The Economy.. will hi end audio mfgs lower prices?
Demand should be dropping, ie. prices should follow. I can't imagine anyone wanting to pay retail in this economic climate. I look at present retail prices as set for a bubble market, retail should absolutely be reset for a depreciated market, the...
Opinions on vintage cj amps and Teflon cap mods
I'm with you on keeping the amps. I find my CJ amp a keeper in it's own right, I like it just because it offers a sound unlike the more modern tube amps I've owned or own. I don't agree that Teflon caps are the only way to go, Jantzen Superior Z ...
VH Audio Vcaps
Willster, duh, I totally forgot about that. I've previously burned in caps using that method, still only good for higher voltage rated caps. Duelunds don't need burn in, sound totally natural from the get go, I can't imagine a better cap.
Opinions on vintage cj amps and Teflon cap mods
I'm planning on capacitor upgrades to my CJ MV-55. I will use Jantzen Z-Superior Copper at the lower end of price scale, VH Audio V-Caps at higher end.Based on my experience, either of these caps should provide the improvements you're looking for,...
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Pro-ject RM10
Stanwall, that's interesting, I suspect the thick rubber washer is acting a bit like a suspension, re-introducing vibration back into tt. I'm going to try taking my rubber washers off, wonder why Harry uses them?I've been thinking of using Aurios ...

Scottht, you may have been kidding, but we can't read your mind. Pets have been known to suffer for these sorts of things. And yeah, I'm an animal lover and can also laugh at the pet jokes!Another thing about cats, I sometimes think we're their pet...
Does anyone or does everyone pay retail price?
And mark-up is only part of it. Collecting sales taxes are an extra burden on the local dealer, 6% in my state. The local dealer doesn't have a chance with many of us. Add the 6% plus MSRP, I can usually get at least 15% plus the 6% sales tax from...
'In Home Dealers' are the future?
I get very little above 10% discount at B&M. I once tried to negotiate a +10% with the store manager at a local B&M, got totally berated in front of other customers. During this negotiating I offered to pay more than my other sources for s...
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Pro-ject RM10
This is an isolation issue, muffled and uncontrolled are not terms I would use in regard to this model of VPI. Hardness is not a term I would use with VPI either. They can sound congested when not using proper isolation. I've experimented with man...

Not the cat's fault. Sometimes owners have to take responsibily for their pet's behavior. We take on ownership of animals knowing full well their instincts and behavior, animals following their instincts should not be made to suffer a death senten...
'In Home Dealers' are the future?
I've noticed an increase in home dealers and decrease in 'brick and mortar' dealers in my area. I would think home dealers are the future, they should be able to offer lower prices vs. the 'big' store dealer because of lower overhead. This should ...
stillpoints question
You're not getting maximum benefit from the Stillpoints until you get a platform that affords greater absorption and isolation, ie. sandbox, Nuance, Symposium, etc. shelves.
stillpoints question
I would agree with Atmasphere, the hardwood is not accoustically dead so you're not draining off vibrations from the tt with the Stillpoints. The Stillpoints should be directly coupled to a vibration absorber, something like a sandbox or such. The ...
VPI super mini feet under VPI Scout ??
I think I can understand why they would be of little use. They are providing a bit of suspension for a table that's not designed for suspension. These VPI's are mass loaded designs, designed to drain vibrations away from table, why would you want ...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord
The only reasonable cost way your going to upgrade the crossovers is to either change out the capacitors yourself, or find a local tech to change them out. Speaker crossovers aren't dangerous from a voltage standpoint so you could change them out ...
