speaker with good low level detail
Martin Logan Aerius i? 1 ft square footprint, and it's hard to beat a stat for detail. $1,000 should do it.
Amplifier Question
Firecracker - before you go to another CD player, think about some outboard DAC's to audition - digital doesn't hold its value at all, and you can get a great DAC for a reasonable price, so you can keep you existing CD - a lot cheaper.Regarding yo...

Good passive subwoofer?
Hmmm, my 555 didn't have a switch for mono. Older model? Also - as bignerd says, you'll want to play with phase, paradigm has a good crossover too, and they usually go for around $100.
Wife Acceptance Factor
McGrogan - You got away for $100grand. Consider yourself lucky. Plus I pay over $2k / month for the kids alone, not counting all the stuff I buy for them out of my pocket - Firecracker - see what I said before - get a dog (they're smarter and bett...
Wife Acceptance Factor
Sure she’s accepting now, but unless you have a very unique model, stand by for a surprise incoming message in about 6.5 months. My #2 is of the unique persuasion, but that was a requirement after lessons learned from #1.Here’s how I arranged thin...
Good passive subwoofer?
I used to run two HSU 1220 tube type subs with an Adcom 555, and it worked fine.BTW, I don't remember any way to bridge a 555, so I'd be careful about that. I don't think that's do-able.You shouldn't need to bridge anyway, as it has suitable power...
Easiest compromise for weakest link?
My center channel, cables and amp. I can always turn it off and go phantom -I rarely lose much, and many times I actually gain by sending that signal through the mains.
Amplifier Question
Pairing an amp and speakers is the real deal, and don't forget the cables that connect the two are also important. Also, the amount of power is not the only variable to consider, although as mentioned above, too much is better than too little (lik...

Bryston Power Amp users - what power cord?
Sunnyboy - You need to read the WHOLE quote from the review rather than be selective and YOU can figure it out- "it does not accept the common industry-wide 15 amp power line plugs, but only 20 amp plugs. This, in turn, may call for installing a n...

What is an HDMI input?
Gentlemen,For your information - Radio Shack is apparently going with Monster brand cables in the future (go figure), so they are blowing out their Rat Shack brand HDMI and DVI cables stupid cheap - like $12.99, from $120. Get 'em while they last ...
anthem mca amps?
I have both the MCA5 and the Bryston 4B ST in my system. The Anthem is an excellent amp, but can't compete with the Bryston in the bottom end. Top end is about the same.
Bryston Power Amp users - what power cord?
Rws is correct - Bryston has reasoning for their suggestion on their web site. Use the stock cords. Nothing to be gained by aftermarket cords.
