For the Audiophile with a taste for good design(looks)....a question.
Another vote for Luxman, at least their amps. If you are into vintage equipment, Bang and Olufsen years ago made a beautifully designed turntable. Their Beogram 4002 model was on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in their Archit...
The problem with Magicos
Why not try to experimentally validate Kenjit’s idea instead of dismissing it out of hand. After reading the above I was curious, so went ahead and took a two inch diameter hole saw and cut an opening into the back of my left Magico A3 speaker. As...
Name the most recent album that has shaped your musical world
Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball. I'm working on getting all her albums now and have found I like some traditional country music, and bluegrass too, enough to actually acquire some. Having grown up near New York City where Country and Western was alm...
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
I like the books and cars analogies too. I don't feel the music is the end. Like you hilde45, I feel it's an equal part of an equation with each part as valuable as the other in providing pleasure. Like with acquiring records and CD's, it's as muc...
What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
Chrissie Hynde singing "There's a Thin Line Between Love and Hate" on the Pretenders Learning to Crawl LP. Gets me every time. Check it out.John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme"Aretha Franklin's heartfelt "Angel" written by her sister, off the Hey, Hey...
One year down, two to go. What's the longest you have saved for one component?
Tomic601, now that is some excellent financial advice and made me laugh at the same time. Good thinking.Mike
How do I pay?
How close to you does this seller live? If no shipping is involved I think Misstl has it right above. Plan to pick the speakers yourself and bring cash to his house after you make sure he doesn't live in a dicey part of town. If you like them afte...
1st Album you Ever Owned?
I have to join the growing "Meet the Beatles" crowd here. It was in the early 60's my Mom won a drawing at the Roosevelt Field shopping mall on Long Island. It entitled her to a selection of $35.00 worth of free records at the mall record store. T...
Keith Jarrett on the importance of audio sound quality
Thank you for posting that article. It was enjoyable.Mike
Who are your three favorite female singers?
Billie HolidayPatsy ClineAretha Franklin
During this isolation, I would be interested in suggestions of great movies you like.
I like old movies, grew up on them as television reruns on the local NYC stations like WPIX in the fifties.King Kong (the original)Babes in Toyland, later reissued as March of the Wooden Soldiers, (with Laurel and Hardy. It’s got real boogie men i...
Discernment is bad. Self awareness is good.
You make a good point Erik. You're never going to be able to get the best of everything anyway, so why worry overmuch about it? Do the best you can and enjoy what you have, and have accomplished. And it's a little off your point, but the things yo...
Downside to "revealing" system?
We’ve got a somewhat similar system Joey, I’ve a Luxman 507UX integrated, a VPI Classic 2 turntable with an Ortofon 2M Black cartidge, and Magico A3’ speakers which are quite revealing. After reading your post, I’m listening right now to some earl...
Interesting discovery when my carpets were cleaned yesterday!
The IsoAcoustic Gaia feet under my speakers have the "smoked" chrome finish so they are more subdued in appearance than the plain chrome finish version. They have performed exactly as well as their reviewers stated they would too. Imagine that.Mike
Think fast: What would you take?
Johnnysterebuyers advice seems good. If you’ve a minute to read your homeowners policy, you might find a few valuables listed the policy doesn’t or only partially covers, that you could fit into your car. For instance our State Farm Homeowners pol...
