A solid tube photo stage around 1500
@geof3. Yes, before I got the line magnetic, I was looking at a deck where it's in. But then Steve told me about the 6th month wait. And of course, the review and Stereophile is going to add to that. That's the first public review I've ever seen o...

@noromance I trust your advice and have for many years. Let’s assume I can’t swing Keith’s prices at the moment. This move I’m asking about would be a stepping stone to a Herron.
Has anyone used the Spin Clean Record Washer System
Yes, for many years. I have a VPI 16.5 now, but the spin clean served me well for many years. Distilled water is a key.

I'm not sure why I would ever buy anything new except for a phono cartridge. Having said that, for my office system, I bought a Schitt Mani new, but that was $107. Not exactly hi-fi prices. Everything else - speakers, amps, tonearms, turntables, c...
Help with Classical Music Record Labels.
@lowrider57 I can see that. I think Dorle wanted to reach a larger audience and thus presumably went for a different house sound.
Help with Classical Music Record Labels.
My great aunt, Dorle Soria, was the founder of Angel records. As well as being a producer, she also was looking for talent both new and established and was instrumental ( no pun intended ) in helping new talent get recorded. I can't attest the sou...

@re Seriously. Live a little, MC!
Record clamp/weight and turntable speed
@xaak. I run a VPI HW-19 Mk4 with a screw on clamp. The Herbie's mat washer rises about 2-3 mm above the mat. The VPI platter has a concavity which matches up nicely with the Herbie's. Thank you for explaining the reasons behind that!
Record clamp/weight and turntable speed
@xaak - My Herbie's Mat has a rubber washer between the platter and record. What does that do for the physics of clamping?

@glupson -- I see your point. People see cars as much more of a necessity, more of a personal extension, and more of a public avatar for themselves than anything in audio. Hi-end audio is, in the end, intensely personal. The sweet spot can usually...

@inna "Very expensive audiophile stuff is one thing but something modest worth, say, $50k is another. "I think this corroborates the OP's initial incredulity. Saying a $50K system is "modest" is like saying a $500K house is modest. For the vast ma...

@glupson. Thank you  I teach high school English and collegiate education. Also, several people have really identified how many of us do manage to afford it. Well, those of us who don't have as much income as arrest. When I was first starting out i...

Oh, and OP, ignore anything MC says not related to audio. He gets paid by the  snarkiness factor of his posts, so its in his economic interests to be as abrasive as possible without contributing much.

When she gets overwhelmed by my constant buying and selling of audio, my wife says that being a teacher (like me) is not conducive to being in hi-end audio. And no, I can never and would never drop five figures on a piece of equipment, but I do sp...
