Advantages of monoblocks Well said, Bvdiman. That should be a truism of hi-end audio, along with being happy with what you have as long as it's making you happy.
Nola Boxers vs. Reference 3A Dulcets I have the Reference 3A de capo be's in my 10'x14' carpeted room and they fill it beautifully. I'm not sure the smaller Dulcets would do the same compared to the Nolas, though.
Monitors that compete with quality floorstanders?? Reference 3A de Capo's. They go from 42H-40K. beautiful, open, punchy monitors.
Usher Tiny Dancer 2 - opinion Rb - thanks for the information. I'm about to install beryllium tweeters onto my de Capo monitors so I won't be in the market for new speakers for a while. However, when I do, info like yours still points me to Ushers!
Talkin' 'bout my De Capo's Question: what's the best way you've found to burn in the new tweeters?
most clear, crisp sound power amps, monoblocks ? The range of answers here is awe-inspiring. Condescension to curmudgeon; elitist to judgmental. And even a few well-meaning answers thrown in. "Against design" I did see - and read - the link. Hinkley's statement was guarded at best and dealt more with bracing and overall construction rather than pure sonic benefits - other than his own opinion about hardwood. I'd tend to believe that hardwood WOULD perf...
"Against design" So there's really no sonic improvement to be gained by using hardwood?
The year is 1986 Klipsch, through which I'll play "Money for Nothing", "Broken Wings", and "Things Can Only get Better".
"Against design" Question: why do so many box/driver speakers use MDF instead of real hardwood?
Talkin' 'bout my De Capo's So, the other day I went to a wonderful local audio dealer to audition the Harbeth 7es3 and SHL5's. They were hooked up to a Line Magnetic 501 integrated, with an LM cd player and several turntables, including Well Tempered. This dealer was perfec...
Of all your gear, what piece impresses you most? My de Capo's are amazing monitors. But the LSA Statement integrated is also a lifetime piece. Truthfully, it's the Rotel 1072 cd player that performs far out of its league. |
