What has the same sound as Ref. 3a ?
I've owned both de capos and Triangles. Look for a Triangle Celius maybe ? Or, perhaps, s Vandersteen 3a Sig?
Amplifier Hum - A Problem Solved
Hoff - your post was both entertaining and illuminating! I, too, have that mysterious, transient hum -- and now I know what to look for. Thanks!
How do I break in a tube amplifier?
My god; you can leave it unattended whenever you wish. I mean, I wouldn't drive off for the day while it's on, but I've left my ARC or Sophia or BAT on for hours while I'm otherwise occupied. Just make sure small children aren't around it.
An integrated with a good phono
Peter, I've been a Mapleshade customer for about a decade now - speaker/amp stands and their Double Helix cables. I checked out their line of hot-rodded Scott el84 amps. Why would you recommend them?
An integrated with a good phono
Yes! As a former Rogue owner (Magnum 120 monoblocks), I've always been drawn to the brand. And I've been eyeing the Prima Luna's as well based on reviews and audiogon members' testimony. Thanks for re-affirming those.Dayglow, I'd never considered ...
Best rock bass player
Um, Geddy Lee. Yes, Flea and Levin and Claypool might be more technically articulate, but Geddy out=performs them in terms of musicality, composition, and voicing. Whether you enjoy Rush or not, his elevation of his instrument in his genre is comp...
Speakers with fullness and weight?
Zd is right. The entire system contributes to the punch and weight of the sound. You need to match your amp to your speakers, obviously, and also consider your source. I have Reference 3A de Capo I's powered by a YBA 201 integrated. It's good for ...
one last show
Phish - doesn't matter where or when. The sheer unpredictability of the setlist and what could happen and the vibe of the show would make it worth it.Great topic, btw!
Why does most new music suck?
And one more thing: speaking of Rolling Stone, I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's being mystified, scared, but fascinated by the artists on the "College Charts". I didn't recognize 90% of the names, but they seemed way different than ...
Why does most new music suck?
You may want to get a subscription (if you don't have one already) or resubscribe to Rolling Stone magazine. It's a good gateway to the music out there, as well as a way of keeping abreast of what's developing out there.
Jean-Luc Ponty
Cosmic Messenger is a more focused, more layered continuation of Imaginary Voyage (tho the title track to that album is about as visual a musical piece as I can think of!). CM is definitely more complex and mature than Aurora - which is fine in it...
Do you play an instrument? Helps in speaker eval?
Drums and percussion. And I listen for how honest the toms sound - whether I can hear them being struck. Also, does the bass drum have its individual timbre? or does it just sound like a generic thump? Cymbals should have their own location and so...
If you wanted to impress someone, which track?
Seal's "Violet" - layers upon layers and a huge, wide open soundstage production.
If you wanted to impress someone, which track?
@Dreadhead - Huh, I never considered that disc to be audiophile worthy, but then again, I've never listened to it except on tape. Still a great album!
If you wanted to impress someone, which track?
Almost anything from Zero 7's first cd. Pristine production and delivery. My non-audiophile friends always comment on it and many have gone out to get the album after listening. By many I mean about two. Still...
