Django Reinhardt. On a related note, the Woody Allen movie "Sweet and Lowdown" (starring Sean Penn) is an enjoyable look at the music of Django's era. The character of Django himself puts in a pivotal cameo.
More Line Inputs Needed For a while, I did use the Rat Shack audio switcher C123666 mentioned to expand what I could hook up to my input-challenged audible illusions 2d. I used it for secondary sources (vcr, cable, tuner) and didn't notice any obvious sound degradation (...
Dad likes my Infinity Kappa8's, What's similar? Maybe something in the NHT line? Narrow front profile and tight rockers for sure. Lots of different options at different price points.
Slow Rega P25 Audiogon has once again made my day. You were spot on about the pulley being loose on the shaft. A drop of superglue is drying as I speak, and I ordered a new belt just to be on the safe side. Thanks again for all your help.
Need much Help Turntable, Phono pre, Cartridge... Matrix,I feel your pain--you want satisfying vinyl playback while wanting to spend as little as possible. But what is "satisfying"? Only you can decide, and you can only decide after listening to a range of systems. If there's no local dealer carr...
Good preamp for Vandersteen and McCormack I run 2ce's (non-sig) w/ a dna .5 dlx. I've tried two pre's in my system--a conrad johnson pv10al and an audible illusions 2d--both can be had for under 500. The cj was lusher and more romantic, the ai is more dynamic and seems to have a greater f...
Moving to separates Given your needs/budget, perhaps you might look into something like a Music Hall Mambo. It's an int. amp. plus DAC (coax and toslink inputs). 1300 new. Worth investigating. Good luck and have fun.
Don't care for my Philips 963 Thanks for the responses so far-keep 'em coming. I'm not real handy with a soldering iron and am loathe to practice on the Philips. And Pmotz, I have futzed about quite a bit with the settings, but thanks for the heads up. But an even greater reas...
add Benchmark DAC-1 to Sony 400 cd jukebox??? For a while, I ran a digital signal from a 40 dollar dvd player into a msb link dac II. A tremedous jump in sound quality. I don't see why the benchmark wouldn't do the same for your sony. Buy the benchmark used so that if you don't feel the impro...
Trying a turntable-it sounds crappy, what's up?? Something decent for 500 is attainable. There are a number of darn good cartridges you could get for around 150. Poke around the archives here to get other peoples perspectives or maybe start a new thread. Slap that baby on your technics and liste...
Preamp suggestions-upgrading from C-J PV10A I had a 10a for a couple of years (mated to a mccormack ss amp) and really liked its lushness, especially on vocals. Wanted a built in phone stage (my 10a didn't have one) and went with a audible illusions 2d (which I picked up for 400). Had a cou...
50/60 hz conversion I may be wrong here, but your european spec motor is designed to run at 50 hz. I think it might be possible to damage the motor by forcing it to run at a cycle for which it wasn't designed. I think the safest option is to get a new motor and keep ...
Looking for some sax sp music Perhpas a bit sedate (in comparison to Clemons), but for when you want to class it up a bit but still get your sax on, try Sonny Rollins' Saxaphone Colossus.
Hi-end CD 5-disk Changers? California Audio Labs (CAL) made a five disk changer that gets lots of good reviews, the cl-10. There's one for sale right now on audiogon for 375. Seems like a good deal. (I've no affiliation w/ the seller.)
turntable location problem remi--I had an old pioner tt (probably equivilent to your sansui). I finally bit the bullet and bought a used rega p3. It truly was an ear-opening experience. Start saving your pennies, it'll be well worth it. |
