What sounds best: Vinyl or CDs
@mikelavigne I am not a classically trained musician so I really enjoy the narrative that Zander includes on some of his Mahler interpretations. He talks a bit about fourths, fifths and diminished and augmented chords. As a drummer (non musician L...
Perfect CD to test Equipment
I wonder how it compares to the long time reference Sheffield Labs Drum Record but nobody seems to recall this reference from over 40 years ago
B&W 600i speaker sounds weird..
You probably burnt the voice coil. It needs a replacement woofer or re-coning but at that price point you might as well just replace the speakers....
What sounds best: Vinyl or CDs
Mike,I agree - "very best vinyl" is when it all comes together - pristine wax and a great setup - and I can only comment based on what I have heard which won't be anything close to SOTA vinyl.Red Hot Chili Peppers usually sounds better on Vinyl be...
What sounds best: Vinyl or CDs
I have found that Benchmark DAC 3 sounds like the best I ever heard from vinyl without all the limitations of Vinyl (pops, clicks, hiss) - out of the box and with no Singer SU-1 or any other treatments. I was surprised about the not so subtle impr...
Has Rel fallen out of favor with audiophiles?
Dave,You have an amazing system and I agree that used together in stereo the REL subs will have enough SPL so I stand corrected by you. However, why buy 2 REL when 1 JL can do the job and even better....
Has Rel fallen out of favor with audiophiles?
Artemis_5No worries. Your loss not mine. i thought my setup was listed but perhaps I made a mistake. I use large ATC and have their largest subwoofer. Woofers are all 15 inch...I suspect REL work best with speakers that have 6 inch or smaller woof...
Interesting article on audiophiles and audiophilia
Strange choice of photo for the article - a bunch of no nonsense ATC speakers. The article is more about extreme stuff that looks as wildly different as it sounds. The author seems bemused but actually gets it!
WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU? ISOLATION PLATFORMS, FOOTERS, ETC. for a DAC?
If you subject a device to all kinds of vibration and high SPL levels at max volume and you get nothing above the noise floor then why would you be concerned about isolation?unless you have irrational fears....
WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU? ISOLATION PLATFORMS, FOOTERS, ETC. for a DAC?
Interview discussing microphony and other design choices. The important takeaway is that some designers choose to tackle power supply and microphony issues and others ignore them. If you buy a DAC that is not designed to eliminate these issues the...
WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU? ISOLATION PLATFORMS, FOOTERS, ETC. for a DAC?
The need for isolation is entirely dependent on the design of your DAC. It is possible to design both an excellent power supply and a non-microphonic DAC - in this case any treatment is pointless: it won’t do harm but certainly won’t do any good.U...
Has Rel fallen out of favor with audiophiles?
I guess it depends what speakers they are paired with. Given that many audiophile speakers struggle above 95 db and distort and compress heavily then REL actually will integrate much better than other subs. The distortion and compression have given...
Audio Research Foundation Series
iPhone or iPad analog audio out is pretty good considering the price point.
Which dac or other suggestions
The Gustard X20 Pro with Singer SU-1 sounded as good as a $2000 previous generation Benchmark DAC 2 to me. That would be my budget recommendation.
