Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal You will find few if any speakers that Soundstage found capable of true high fidelity at 95 dB and above. We agree on that point. That said the Vivid Giya G2 performs well - this is an example of high fidelity at higher SPLhttps://www.sounds...

@gdhal The Triton Golden Ear Reference seems to have a linearity problem at quite modest volumes (90 dB). It looks like the AMT ribbon suffers from the problems that have always plagued these designs - lack of ability to produce even modestly high...
Digital streaming/library
@kijanki Make sure Apple Core Audio (audio midi setup) and Apple iTunes are both set to 16/44.1. Core audio is a terrible SRC converter but the one in iTunes is good. Avoid at all cost any Core Audio conversion.

@shoubang   +1 What George said.
Publication bias and confounders in product reviews - TAS, Stereophile, Audiogon, etcetera
You missed the elephant in the room. Ordinary bits of wire. Not long ago, bits of wire were correctly viewed as bits of wire. Today gargantuan sums are paid for ordinary wires in the misguided belief that ordinary bits of wire do more than anythin...

@gdhal You are welcome to disagree with me and Alexander Graham Bell. Actually this  is what is so unique about Audiogon. Audiophiles define a different world in the way they see or hear it. A kind of Twilight zone where normal science does not ap...
Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal 3 dB is twice the volume mathematicallyPerception of a doubling in sound depends on the individual as well as the absolute loudness and frequency - so it is not really precise.

The crossover capacitor blew up and leaked. You probably drove the speaker too hard or an after market capacitor was installed that was not rated enough. Many large electrolytic caps have white goo in them. You can confirm by opening up your speake...
Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal Awesome. If that is continuous at 107 dB (not just peaks) at the listening position that is indeed very loud - more than anyone would care to listen for more than a short period. Congrats!
Nice MQA discussion
@mofimadness The MQA process also includes a filter which will slightly change the sound even on the same master (an especially bad type of filter - minimum phase - which changes the sound audibly). Perhaps the audible filter is what you prefer. T...
Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal So what max level with an SPL meter did you achieve? BTW 110 dB is more than 8 times louder than 100...so above 95 db SPL (the max for most speakers at the listening position) it gets very hard very quickly to deliver full dynamic range. (1...
Nice MQA discussion
@mofimadness I often prefer Masters versions on Tidal also.Like SACD - the masters used on MQA tracks can be better than the heavier compressed CD equivalent alternative. This is the benefit of a better master and not related to the MQA technology...

CA is strong on self promotion. It pretends to be technically superior to other sites but I find the proficiency of Chris and his cohorts to be poor at best and the site has a heavy promotional orientation(sell, sell, sell). CA happens to be pretty...
