I agree with passive speaker designs - speaker can performance can be all over the map from terrible with the wrong amplifier pairing to excellent with the right match. However active speakers are indeed optimized in a holistic sense. Manufacturer...
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more?
Broadly speaking Dave is absolutely right. Some people like the real thing and getting as close as possible to that - true high fidelity.Others don’t care so much about accuracy - they want their system to enhance the sound with musicality (musica...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
7 inch mid range will beam above 1Khz. A 0.75 inch tweeter is not much use below about 4 KHz. So you get a hole in the mid range where the mid range beams and before the tweeter kicks in.

@ghasley Sorry to burst your bubble but a 7inch mid range crossed over to a 0.75 inch tweeter means a big hole in the mid range. The Devore Gibbon Nines will sound pleasant even when pushed because of the recessed mid range. This anything but high...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
@ghasley Interesting but the set up is colored to begin with (no 7 inch woofer can do mid range properly) so I think the conclusion was simply what worked with the gear used. If anything the Denafrips might be more accurate since they heard exactl...

@alvin1118 Thanks for clarification. Since 0.005% tolerance on the resistor is only enough to achieve 14 to 15 bits resolution are you randomizing the selection of the resistor network used every clock cycle in order to achieve higher bit resoluti...

DENAFRIPS Terminator and Schiit Yggdrasil Evaluation and Comparison
Great to see my online stalker is still following and as usual has nothing constructive or useful to add.Anyway I should also thank the OP for a great review and that my query above is genuine and not malicious, you see this design is very much li...
Should I re-rip?
If your PC and equipment work properly it won’t matter the format as long as it is lossless redbook. Digital is digital. If you have issues (differences) then double check your conversion software (FLAC to WAV or WAV to AIFF or ALAC or whatever) a...
Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal I am surprised we cannot agree. To clarify, a speaker that plays to 90 dB SPL before distorting and non-linear behaviour commences is still true high fidelity up to the point it starts distorting. Above that level - well I thought this woul...
DENAFRIPS Terminator and Schiit Yggdrasil Evaluation and Comparison
I don’t doubt the Denafrips sounds fantastic. However technically I have a bit of trouble with the outlandish claim of 26 bits resolution. I smell a rat that may have been released by the Denafrips marketing department. (Not unlike Yggdrasil which...
