Horns vs Ribbons vs Dyanamic
There is a substantial improvement in the mid and higher frequencies. Yes that is the typical manifestation from the additional ambience or reverberation. The room is excited more in the mid range and treble than regular box speakers. (Basically ...
Horns vs Ribbons vs Dyanamic
No "reverberation" or "ambience", just pinpoint sound staging, beautiful tone and very realistic music. Well I am not sure what design you have. There always seem to be exceptions. You must have the rare type of ribbon with a backing that reduces...
3 way vs. 2 way
Zar, I just saw your second post on the this thread. Given your room a good two way is your best option, IMHO.ChadnLiz, you are correct the Zu Druid's 10" driver and whizzer cone may make it an exceptionally loud playing "single driver" speaker - ...
3 way vs. 2 way
let your friend guide you with the differences....those mirage's are awfully good though.....if they were some esoteric ma/pa brand, audiogon would light up singing their praises. I agree Jaybo...Mirage are great value...I think you need to go si...

"These are almost never used in pro audio - so that tells you a lot." Like what? B&W's get used in the pro audio a lot, even with their flaccid, bloated bass. Berenger get's used a lot in pro audio, but sends shivers up the spines of many her...
3 way vs. 2 way
Zar,3 way is necessary for elevated sound levels. It retains balance, clarity and dynamics over a broader range of volumes. It is however much bigger and more imposing and potentially ugly/obtrusive. A two way is fine for "near" or "mid-field" and...

I have both in 42" size. I still prefer the plasma. I would have bought plasma again but could not find a 1920 x 1080 pixels in a 42" size TV and I wanted something that would take proper advantage of Blu-ray.I don't like mercury back light of the...
How to audition used speakers???
IMHO, get something that is currently supported so that you can repair it, if necessary. Speakers are quite easily damaged when overdriven/clipped amp.
Horns vs Ribbons vs Dyanamic
Audiotomb made a good start,Horns - tendency to honk/shrillness but sound good with trumpet and are very easy to drive with low power amps.Ribbons - tweeters are often unreliable, long ribbons behave like planars....lots of reverberation/ambienceP...
most accurate loudspeakers....
A good place to start is to check out what most of the prestigious studios and mastering engineers like to use. Full range accuracy at both low level and realistic live sound levels is actually quite rare in home hi-fi.
Uneven speaker wire runs
If you are going to the trouble of bi-wiring (dubious from an engineering perspective if this will make an audible difference given a low impedance SS amp driving your speakers) then I would go for exactly the same length wires to be safe (after a...
Vandersteen 5a or Eggleston Andra II
Firstly, as others have mentioned, I would not choose a speaker for the tweeter. Mid range is much more important. Secondly, Bob Ludwig currently uses the Andra II's - do a google on him and you will probably find that he has mastered a great deal...
Home Theater Enclosure Problem?
{quote] It's only on DVDs that I miss words occasionally [/quote]In that case it may be normal. Movies are often mixed so that they can be played at louder volume levels than a radio or TV program. They want those sound effects to really envelope ...
Home Theater Enclosure Problem?
How is the ARCAM AVR receiving the 5.1 movie data - TOSLINK or digital coax? What about TV - Toslink also?Or are you using analog cabling?I hope you aren't using any Y connectors to jumper two analog line level outputs together from different sourc...
