Queen song question?
Kelton,Ooops I forgot to add that Brian May is the lead guitar player for Queen. As you can see from the link I am not one to BS about this stuff.I am sorry if this info about Queen might not be what you wanted to hear. It makes sense (to me) that...
Why are we so passive?
both a lover of chamber music and a heavy metal fan in one design it would have been achieved by now. Good point. The desired tailored coloration of many audiophiles means that "foolproof" active speakers are unattractive in many cases. However, f...
First Post - The Long Road Back - Warning: Lo-Fi
A few weeks ago it started getting noisy in one channel Have you considered that it may have been faulty for some time before finally crapping out? This would give a simpler explantion for why the NAD is a completely different and far better sound.
Speakers under $750.00...Preposterous Notion?
There are many great second hand speakers at this price...you have to go a little old that is all.For example a second hand pair of Energy Pro 22 can probably be found for $200 and would fit your needs. Every now and then a speaker company comes o...
Why are we so passive?
Lush,I am glad to see a consumer brand embracing active speakers...until now it has been only computer speakers and pro gear where you find active speakers (pros began to embrace active speakers about 20 years ago...)As Meridian correctly states t...
Queen song question?
I think, if I recall correctly, Brian May uses PMC speakers. You probably won't like these speakers either as they are quite similar designs to ATC's but with a TL bass that gives them more bass ouput. A little less forward in the mid range perhap...

Queen song question?
Thats the question is it the recording or the speakers? Queen are not that well recorded live (like most bands...it is a rare gem when a live recording sounds just like the real thing). So I would say it is the recording.Queen's studio stuff is o...
PMC IB1's close to rear wall, is this O.K.?
Alun,Yes indeed I was trying to give you an idea of bass strength...these are all good speakers including your existing speakers, selection being a matter of taste.
If you only upgrade one component in HT what is it
I'm with Avguygeorge...get an HD-DVD or Blueray player
Why are we so passive?
Undertow has added some good points. For example, an active speaker allows the designer to control phase more precisely. Actives have less compromise than passive crossovers; less trade offs in power loss on passive elements, keeping phase changes...
What do BBC studios use for speaker cables
BBC are not known for paying big bucks for speakers or equipment. Many of the successful BBC designs like the Rogers were in fact very economical (low cost) speakers that sounded very good. I doubt BBC would use special cables, as large companies ...
Ferrite Cores for Power cords
These devices act as a choke (filter out higher frequencies that may be picked up as a cable acts like an antenna). Generally these should not be required on a power cord or speaker cable as impedances are very low (unless you have a radio operato...

If I recall bass goes like this Spendor - Harbeth - PMC - Proac in increasing order. ATC is actually regarded as bass lean by most people compared to "average" consumer speakers that tend to be a little bass heavy (bass sells).
Why are we so passive?
{Genelec Actives} Do they compare with my Cerious Ceramic speakers and Atma-sphere OTL tube amps? No. I bet they don't. Two very different sounds. Both are good but serve a different purpose. Active speakers are definitely not for everyone.
