Has anyone ever tried two center channel speakers?
Conversely, the vast majority of so-called dedicated center channel speakers are awful, having been designed to accommodate naive expectations and esthetic requirements at the expense of audio performance. I cannot agree more! 5.1 movie soundtrac...
Componets first, cables second?
Peter,Here is a contrarian or minority view. If cables (a piece of wire) makes a large difference then I would definitely be concerned about the equipment. From my perspective, good and well matched gear should have robust power supplies and high ...
Has anyone ever tried two center channel speakers?
Normally designers try to align vertically the tweeter and mid range for good reasons - you should really use your speakers the way they were intended (vertical)
Born to Run: Why the Poor Sound Quality?
I'm with Onhwy61, it was done deliberately to sound that way - a kind of steelworker, automaker, tough guy, jump in your "built-like-a-rock" all-American pick-up with the boys kind of sound. Compressed and slightly edgy.It worked - the album did w...
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
Ears, I'm with you - I bought a Blu-ray player a couple of months - not because I think Blu-Ray is better but because there is more of the new stuff that I want....although I do regret not having Jason Bourne's Ultimatum..,
$40.000 speaker advise. Check out my list
Here is a simple rating. These are all excellent speakers - and I have not heard them all. I'd put them in two camps, those with rigid lightweight drivers and those without. Personally I prefer damped cones (paper, woven fabric, polypropylene etc)...
JM Focal 1037 BE speaker placement
I'd go 3 feet from side walls and then optimize distance to rear wall according to bass response. The most accurate sound (flattest frequency response) will usually come with speakers placed either 6 feet or more into the room. The most pleasing b...
Quad 2905 midrange balance question
I have not made a direct comparison. Dynamic speakers tend to present an impressive often boosted bass and boosted treble. This clearly sells in competitive demos with most folks (sounds more detailed to an untrained ear but will end up being fati...
Please help with speaker choices
Your short list has clearly selected some beautiful looking aesthetic speakers (Verity, Audio Physic, SF, Merlin etc.) These are all very good speakers and each has strengths and weaknesses. The one strength that they all share is that they all lo...
Please help with speaker choices
Just a heads-up - take a look at this.Note the behaviour in the upper mid range from 2Khz to 5 Khz on the plots. Then look at the peak in the impedance plot and the phase behaviour in this same upper mid-range region.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
The battle lines are drawn. Hollywood bug studios team up with Sony, "the "Corporate" bad guys, and arm themselves with Ratatouille, POTC3 and Blade Runner Xmas Blu-ray releases. Meanwhile Jason Bourne with Sam and Walmart must find a way to fight...
Please help with speaker choices
Since you are in a mid to far field listening position and you like loud then I'd go with a three way of your choice (may present amp challenges however) although from personal experience the SCM 20's can go extremely loud compared to other two wa...
A butt-load spent in cables - how much improvemt?
Great setup. Those alcoves for the speakers/sub might pose some significant bass management issues have you considered adding bass traps in the corners at the back of the alcoves?I see the fronts of your speakers are brought forward from the edge ...
A butt-load spent in cables - how much improvemt?
I'm very happy with my current cabling Me too...I use stock PC's, stock balanced XLR IC's and Monster speaker cable for surround speakers. I do use a power conditioner to get rid of AC line noise and to maintain appropriate voltage and it did mak...
