Room Issues Fstein,I had an ATC 0.1/15 sub and SCM 20's in a space like that - no problem with sound levels or bass response. Without the sub it was definitely anemic sounding. I used an EQ to reduce the reponse by 3 db at 4 Khz due to gymnasium type wood flo...

Best new loudspeaker i find it hard to believe that dispersion is the only variable accounting for differences in a speaker composed of cones as compared to a another speaker which has none of them. can you suggest a way of demonstrating this ? It may be hard to beli...
velodyne dd12 or jl audio fathom? The SVS PB 13 looks awesome - for movies the ports can be left open and the 20Hz output is outstanding - no compression WOW, however the group delay is a wee bit high for my liking for music (may sound plodding or muddy in kick drum). No worries t...
PRE_AMP for ATC- actives?? Pretty much anything works as far as I know....provided it is XLR balanced. If you use an RCA only preamp then there is a small risk that you can't play them as loud as they can go before the pre-amp runs out of juice.
velodyne dd12 or jl audio fathom? Yes the JL has impressive performance data - not perfect - some compression at 20 Hz but overall great value for money. Check out the HT Shack Subwoofer tests results I don't think you'll find a direct comparison with the DD12 but you can get the ...
Obscure companies making excellent speakers? Outwardly the speaker is so understated that it looks more at home in a pawn shop than a high-end boutique. Amfibius, I agree - they are plain and ugly looking. They make only a few models - basically different box sizes and limited by the fact t...
Best new loudspeaker yes i will assert that any electrostatic, WITHIN ITS FREQUENCY RESPONSE BANDWIDTH, will create the sound of an instrument, in a manner more realistic than any cone design. (in the above quote the capitals were added for emphasis)Hang on ....you a...
Obscure companies making excellent speakers? fly under the radar because advertisement just too expensive or not viable. I don't think I have ever seen ATC advertise although they are longtime supporters of the Audio Engineering Society and have published peer-reviewed engineering papers on...
Best new loudspeaker timbre is one of several components of music. it is most important to me MrT,timbre is old french for a "drum" or close to "timbanon" in greek...Do you seriously consider the Quad 57 or a stack of them or any electrostatic/planar/ribbon the last ...
Spendor S9e or ProAc Response D28 This a reviewers comments on Guns & Roses MFSL No, even Mobile Fidelity's GAIN system doesn't turn Appetite for Destruction into a precise audiophile disc. But their mastering makes quite an appreciable improvement on this album, turning a bar...
RACMANINOFF PIANO CONCERTO 2 1. Rachmaninoff # 2 & 3 Horacio Futierrez at Pianoconducted by Loren Mazael of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra-Telarc Digital CD-802-259 This is perhaps too well recorded. Try cranking it - it is meant to be played loud - it is actually ver...
System-Buster CDs Try Sheffield Labs Drum track CD. If the drum set is in the room then it passes the "system-buster test". The bass content on this track is both very low and enormously powerful, though the recording is dense with sound from all registers. I've ta...
Spendor S9e or ProAc Response D28 Weird thing is I listen to movie louder than I do music, yet under this activity I don't find them fatiguing Movies are not COMPRESSED like pop & rock music. The reason you find rock + hard rock music fatiguing is because it has been compress...
Speaker Placement I don't think the Totem Model One would be overkill for this setup - it would still sound so much better than what you find at Best Buy...Since there are so small - why not mount them on adjustable wall brackets? |
