Stereophile review of Escalante Fremont
I am questioning that anyone has heard it on the W/P8.The WP8 uses technologies from the MAXX - my understanding is that Wilson has improved on the problem of "grain" or "etched" sound from Titanium drivers (to me the need for "improvement" is ad...
Which allround speaker ?
Your best choice, given your tastes, would probably be the Silverline Bolero or Beolab 5.
Stereophile review of Escalante Fremont
The “brightness” of the Watt comes from its tweeter's dome break-up that is too close to the audioband. It is not brightness, it is simply distortion. Some, may find it exciting. Almost all extremely rigid light weight drivers seem to run into re...
Quad 57 stacked v Wilson watt puppy 6/7
Quads => Yamaha NS1000M => WP 6/7 arranged in order of increasing loudness/dynamics/reliability. The Yamaha's are awesome - just don't push 'em too hard.
Which allround speaker ?
I second Jaybo's suggestions - all of those speakers he listed will be better for your needs/requirements than your Thiels.
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations?
Rob,Your comments are quite rational - apart from the TV hum from the cable connection all your observations are exactly as I would expect. The principal benefit from a big power amp is NOT sonics but MORE POWER....it will not and should not be ni...
Racoon fried my Monster AC Powerstation
Just consider yourself lucky Dan was there - otherwise another Racoon would have snuck in the house and stolen your awesome system whilst you were out inspecting the line - that was their plan no doubt!
Stereophile review of Escalante Fremont
Seems our international respectable Stereophile magazine has a lot of degradation in their quality If the measurements are completely wrong (incorrectly and incompetently made) then I agree...but where is the evidence that Stereophile measurement...
Looking for the "better sub"
"I am not sure that something linear is a good thing with panels".....you kidding right? Dave,I was just considering that panels don't play extremely loud and at some SPL level (as with all speaker designs) they inevitably begin to compress (the ...
Looking for the "better sub"
I am not sure that something linear is a good thing with panels. You may struggle with different SPL levels ....a match here but then a mis-match there. A small sub might be the optimal fit- something with limited excursion/small woofer and which ...
B&W 703 - How to tame the highs?
Change the type of music I listen to. Not likely to happen as I grew up listening to the popular music of the 70's, 80's and 90's which was mainly Rock. Actually most of the 70's and 80's rock music is fairly good - apart from Steve Lillywhite st...
B&W 703 - How to tame the highs?
Speakers do not have to be overly warm or inaccurate to play compressed music without ensuing listening fatigue. I am not sure if I was clear - I don't mean compressed as in iTunes or MP3 - I meant compression of the sound by the mastering engine...
Live infectious funk jams....quality recordings
Try Steve Ferrone "More Head" and Tower of Power "Soul Vaccination" => two great sounding live albums and very funky. Ferrone really has the Groove and David Garibaldi needs no introduction. Also try Black Eyed Peas "Vegas to Sydney" DVD - (perh...
Thoughts on adding a Super tweeter .
Most likely the benefits of adding inaudible content are inaudible. It is known that sharp filters to remove out of band noise can effect the "in band" sound, however, that seems to be the only convincing argument for greater bandwidth (well beyond...
B&W 703 - How to tame the highs?
When it comes to using these speakers for HT purposes, I honestly can't find any fault - even if I try. It makes me wonder if designing speakers to reproduce movies and music requires a compromise in one to benefit the other. What you are discove...
