Remasters: which are the good ones? Bob Marley remasters (excellent!) This is off topic but if anyone is on the hunt for Bob Marley then get Rebelution "Courage to Grow" - great sound and great reggae with a modern energetic twist. As for masters - check out Doug Sax at Artists dire...
Picture discs - Collectors items? I have the Boston first album picture disc - it did not sound good compared to normal 33 vinyl (more pops and clicks) but it looks awesome and cool - love the art - but as someone mentioned it is really just "memorabilia"
Active Speakers: The usual suspects .... Steve,No I have not made direct A/B's. Frankly, when I say "King" I mean it is immediately obvious that nothing else that small without a big sub could sound anything like it. Drums are particularly good. For near-field I think that a cheaper set ...
Active Speakers: The usual suspects .... I'd say it is quite similar to ATC SCM100 in sound - really tight bass and a bit less forward in the upper mids - however the dispersion is narrower so definitely more suited to near field or smaller rooms.
Should 'a' been a contender hales were magic for sure. i remember listening to a revalation 3 against a brightly painted 20k speaker, and the hales actually sounded way better I agree the Hales Revelation 3 was (is) a revelation but it is often more desirable to a own a mor...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic Well you can't beat horns for distortion levels that will compete with headphones - so you are on the right track for detail - but can you live with that kind of directivity. Room issues/setup/sweetspot may become a bigger challenge.
Confused and unsure about upgrading my speakers. Do you have a large room? Or put another way do you find you ever play your speakers in a way they sound really quite loud?If you do then you are probably runnning into the limitations of an excellent great value design. Small voice coils quickly...
Confused and unsure about upgrading my speakers. I agree with your analysis - you made a good choice. You will have to spend significantly more in order to get a modest improvement.Principally you can do much better in the bass department and much louder clean playing and more dynamics (realism)...
Active Speakers: The usual suspects .... Unfortunately, the MM27 comes in at $7,000 pair (street price), which is way out of my price range Yes - but look at what you get for all that! Plug in an iPod into these babies and you will be in serious rock heaven - nothing else required! Jack...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic After hearing some incredible horn systems What have you heard and can you describe what it is you like about horns viz a viz your current setup? As far as I can see you have plenty of bass already - so is it more dynamics or forwardness of just g...
Active Speakers: The usual suspects .... Yeah the MM27 is king of meter bridge monitors for sure - in the tight accurate deep bass department.A substantial heavy bookshelf sized monitor but with the kind of quality bass at SPL's you normally only get from large 100 liter+ big box cabinet...
The use of equipment as "tone controls" Wireless200,Do you see it too?I constantly see audio performance specifications raining down on me from all sides.I thought it was just me ;-)
Does anyone out there NOT hear a difference in CD BTW, at 60dB thems spkrs is doin good. Most won't do 25 before kicking a few buckets...Gregm,Indeed, yet it is all too common to see extremely expensive CD players hooked up to the kind of speakers you mention. My ATC mid domes are respected for ...
Mid life audio crisis Congratulations - since it is plenty loud enough for your room then you can blame the source music if you don't like the sound - the speakers are just playing the music as nearly transparently as is possible with today's technology.
Does anyone out there NOT hear a difference in CD should sound considerably better than one from 1992 that cost $800. You can't be that sure, however, CD players did indeed improve in general around the early 90's with delta sigma DAC's and oversampling becoming widespread. (Principally Higher s... |
