Best all around speakers
I second Fafafion and Bongofury but with a caveat - there really is no "best" - just horses for courses.I'd add a comment that Harbeths are (to my mind) slanted a little towards easy listening whilst ATC are slanted a little towards rock/jazz/big ...
Which speaker for my system?
I've not heard your Audes...so take this with a pinch of salt.If you like the Audes design (which looks like a very sensible use of the drivers - although the midrange might be crossed over a wee bit too low for clean low distortion at higher SPL'...
Balanced Interconnect Cable for ATC Active Monitor
Telarc have been long used Monster Cable M1500, M1.5, Series I & III Prolink, Pro-1000 and Music Interface Technologies Proline Balanced IC's. Typical gear used: Mix: Sonoma 24 DSD (AtoD custom converters by Ed Meitner), Preamp: Ed Metiner's S...
Directional interconnect cables
It is only the practitioner that is forced to assume that tested and undisproven theories are facts. A true scientist realises nothing is ever proven I find the theorising here, by both sides, as pointless too ...and might that include your own ...
What makes up an
Dr Floyd Toole during his NRC days found three things were important to listeners (they performed rigorous tests). Wide Dispersion, flat frequency response and low distortion. I'd propose that this is a basic requirement but there is a lot of chea...
In Whose Ears Do You Trust Most?
I trust my ears, but only to a point. We all must trust our own ears, yet it is far too easy to lose objectivity—we need external validation from other disinterested ears, and from empirical measurements. Well said. Although, I find that disinter...
Diffraction be gone
Here is a picture of the Dual Hyperdome Tweeter - so you get the idea. The faceplate was recessed so that the foam "gasket" sat flush with the baffle. When you consider that a tweeter generally costs a mere $25 in most speakers and that foam can b...
Diffraction be gone
Interesting.Do you have ASLT or 20-2?Do you listen with the grill off? (grill should definitely be ON for the towers to avoid those sharp baffle edges)How close are the speakers to side walls? (4 feet or more away is best)FWIW: I found a significa...
Directional interconnect cables
Since you guys are running a tab, I'll have a Pear D'Anjou liqueur and matching set of cables.
Gallos how good are they?
The dispersion pattern of most conventional speaker designs is nothing like that of live acoustic instruments. This is perhaps the biggest reason why even many of the best stereo systems sound like stereo systems and not live performances Agreed,...
Directional interconnect cables
trust cable companies - they certainly know more and have more experience. I am sure you can trust many of them, however, I would be cautious about their vested interest in selling higher margin products. And a $400 audio or video cable is likely...
fine tuning speaker placement
After a month, I finally got it to +/- 5db 20Hz to 16KHz. I also got a basic package from GIK.It had the most to do with where I was sitting. Many thanks for the help. That is exceptionally flat. Well done.
ATC Anniv. vs. REG.Active - How big a difference?
Big Difference does not exist at ATC. This may come as a big surprise as most manufacturers offer an array of wildly different sounding speakers to suit a variety of tastes. As for ATC, throughout most of their line differences are quite subtle. T...
Gallos how good are they?
You should resist the "itch", IMHO. If you like the MBL 116 then try Mirage or Ohms as suggested but be wary of the extra ambience that comes with these designs - they can really shine but you'll need lots of space...
why are two subs harder to place than full range?
I'm getting a second sub for a rather large vaulted room, have an injured back, and would rather minimize what seems like a rather long process, at least for the time being by just keeping the subs with the mains. The best spot is often away from...
