Lack in harmonic richness
Viridan,Thanks - I was not aware of that - I thought panels often had some of the cleanest waterfall plots period. I'll dig into it further and see what I can find on it. I am not a panel fanatic as I find they lack dynamic range and bass extensio...
Lack in harmonic richness
Chris - what you seem to be describing is not a problem "thin or threadbare" but a lack of "air" or an overly "dry" sound. Remember your upper midrange is probably second to none - it probably decays near instantly anbeing very "panel fast" with n...
The latest flavour of the month speaker
Much of what any living creature does is unfortunately but of course often dictated by fear. Yeah, however, most of what a man does seems to be dictated by his wife and mother-in-law.... ;-) We got more brawn but it would seem we get outmanoeuvre...
Help needed: bizarre voltage readings
BTW - since a path to ground via a grounding rod may not be very good - this also bypasses the safety protection on your equipment with three prongs - the idea is that the chassis is both grounded and connected to neutral at the panel which means ...
Help needed: bizarre voltage readings
Appreciate the article. But if the ground outlet's ground is not connected to anything, should the reading give 0V instead of 4V between hot and ground and between neutral and ground? Voltages are everywhere...if the ground is connected to a grou...
Is there a truly musical multiple CD player?
I re-read my post and I hope it was not too strongly worded - no offense was intended but I think that we audiophiles get carried away sometimes in thinking that "anything normal such as a tone control" will necessarily sound terrible and is not r...

Fear leads to the dark side of audiophile forces.Fear of cable impurities causing imperfections to the sound, Fear of jitter, Fear of house panel wiring, Fear of interconnects robbing the system of sound, Fear that XYZ is too cheap/low cost to pos...
Is there a truly musical multiple CD player?
I keep telling him that if he wants real music he will have to go with a single CD player but what he wants is a multiple CD player. Does a beast like this exist? And if so, what is the best one? I think your advice is a form of audio "snobbery" ...
Lack in harmonic richness
BTW - in the above I assume everything is working properly. Given your extensive experience Chris - I simply assume that you would know if something was wrong and producing distortion.
Lack in harmonic richness
As far as I can recall I had this problem also with the previous speakers (Dunlavy SC V's) but with the Soundlabs it is aggravated. Welcome to accuracy. Both the speakers you mention are highly respected for timbral accuracy - especially in the a...
the process is more challenging than the result
True across the board improvements are hard to find. I find components like Sugden, McIntosh, or Tannoy comforting. Same basic design for 30+ years. Just goes to show real improvements don't happen that often and are usually a sum of many smaller...

What's too hot? operating temp Bryston amp
Great that you are showing an interest - those output MOSFET's do run very hot so I would not be worried. You may not be aware of this but typically your speakers see that temperature and more inside the VC of the drivers - which is why they make ...
