Time to change. But to what?
I still don't know what I was waiting for And my time was running wild A million dead-end tweets Every time I thought I'd got the sound It seemed the taste was not so sweet So I turned myself to Dali But I've never caught a glimpse Of how the othe...
MBL alternatives
Shadorne, now those are some speakers I could DEFINITELY use in an HT system!!!! Infact, I might just look into em for such. Indeed. Given the hypercompression in modern pop/rock music, the dynamic range of ATC's are more useful with classical or...
ATC 100 vs.150
Just the woofer/bigger box, Bill, - that is all.The 100's and up all have the same bigger version of the midrange driver and are already a ton weight. So all you are really looking at is efficiency and a tiny bit more extension (a couple of decibe...
Help me in the right direction, new speakers
Harbeth should be up your street. They are voiced in a way that emotion comes out. Great with vocalists. Not the last word in dynamics and may not start fires with "The Prodigy" but if you get a Monitor 40.1 then it will come close. If you really w...
Mission speakers
I am not familiar with their latest but the 770 were pretty good sounding...a classic. One of the first of many to use polypropylene cones.
Dealing w reflective surface between loud speakers
if you can get those speakers out a couple of feet from the plane of the TV screen, which should be no problem at all if you have already pulled your speakers out into the room far enuf to enhance the sense of depth of image and avoid unwanted ba...
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
perhaps in some designs, but you would have to be running the amp at 100% rms power levels for that to occur, (and the heatsinks would not cool appreciably) most speakers and ears would have been damaged. This argument holds no water. [/url]Good ...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Analog tapes have a from of distortion/compression that is very pleasing - many pros still prefer it. Perhaps the close miked approach to music recording means that analog tape is the optimum medium for taking the sting or harshness out of the music.
Are Digitally mastered LPs any better than CDs?
Metallica is reputed to be better. Their CD's are normally compressed and flat topping throughout - an effect that is harder to do with Vinyl. So it depends.
poor source material
If you are referring to hyper compressed modern CD's then you are not alone with this problem. A lot of music is mastered today for car systems and boom boxes. This can help but it won't cure a hypercompressed CD - it may only take the edge off it...
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
The class A approach minimizes the thermal distortions by maintaining a more or less constant device temperature, and therby reducing the distortions caused by heating and cooling Hang on - a pure Class A device will cool when driven hard - it wi...

Don't you mean New Orleans?
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
At elevated levels it is likely that both sound nearly indistinguishable. At low levels Class A is likely to have an advantage.Crossover distortion is not that "level" dependent. Therefore when the music is very soft then the crossover distortion m...
Our home system: How good it is?
in both cases it is mandatory to make a good wall tratment to avoid " interferences" Absolutely agree. However, if you sit on a couch with its back to a wall (head within 1 1/2 foot of a wall) then no amount of treatment is going to "avoid" signi...
auditioning sessions vs. listening sessions
So my questions are: can one make this kind of a distinction? Is it desirable to keep these two kinds of sessions separate? Nearly impossible to separate except if you listen to just a one or two instruments alone or concentrate on lead guitar le...
