When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I think Hoover uprights suck. Yeah, Albert, a significant advantage, I know, but a Hoover won't chat and take care of you as you get old.
Good speakers at low volume?
Harbeths sound great at low volumes - crytsal clear vocals and warmth. They are used in BBC for drama productions etc - great clarity in the midrange without cranking it and enough bass that it won't sound thin at low levels.
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Sound is inherently analog, but the recoding and playback process for both analog and digital each face distinct and different challenges that must be met to reproduce this accurately.Exactly. And for that reason it makes sense to say you prefer ...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Kijanki,The generalizations of 1 bit versus multi-bit are kind of correct - but they make it sound awful - remember most of these DACS are achieving very low distortion levels (way way way lower than your speakers) - even the old multi-bits (and d...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
It's the best you can do if that is the sound you want, but I would agree with Albert that it will never completely equal or surpass the detail possible with analog source, at least technically on paper. On purely "technical grounds" or "on paper...
Live infectious funk jams....quality recordings
Maceo Parker - Live On PLanet Groove is awesome thanks Tdostert - amazing suggestion - really feels lke you are there
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I agree with your comments, except I wouldn't object to $30.00 or even $50.00 for a perfect digital copy of the master file. Unfortunately, the "master tapes" are not always that great. Lets face it, you can only use up so much studio time and se...
Balanced or Unbalanced?
I was told each unit sounded better using bal I/C but the amount of change was a surprise!! It was as if the S/E had been choking the system down!! Such a huge performance improvement is unusual - perhaps you had a problem with noise from a groun...
How much power is to much power?
A million watts is probably too much. A million isn't exactly a lot of power. This Crown give me a feeling of power! Power! Forgive me a cruel chuckle, heh, heh, heh, power
How much power is to much power?
For your current speakers 140 is far enough - same if you upgrade. Frankly if you need more SPL then get a bigger speaker (three way) rather than overdrive a small one - your little speaker will be mostly distorting when driven hard.FWIW: If you a...
Loud background noise: cables picking up RF?
Is everything plugged into the same electrical outlet? Also look at this - Jensen Transformer - it might be a ground loop and this will eliminate that. Of course it is best not to have anything at all in the signal path but you already have a majo...
What are the best digital recordings I can buy ?
It has to be a native format that exceeds Redbook CD resolution otherwise there is no inherent added value. DVD players and Blu-Ray can both exceed CD.DVD format can contain up to 2-channel Linear PCM audio data ranging from 48 kHz/16-bit to 96 k...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
This is a great thread but I think people who prefer Analog are barking up the wrong tree when they try to "justify " their preference from a "technical" perspective. you could feel the relaxing nature of all analog versus analog with some digital...
is too large a room no good?
I used ATC SCM 20 and a sub in a room with space for a complete badminton court, hot tub and large ornamental fig tree. Approx dimensions were 50 feet by 36 feet with 11 to 18 feet vaulted ceiling. No problem at all to fill this space (but I absol...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Digital has improved, yes, but only the very highest quality equipment, I would say at a minimum cost of at least $50,000, can even begin to be spoken of in the same conversation, sound-quality wise, as a properly set-up vinyl rig So which $50,00...
