Dunlavy SC IVA X-over resistor values However he did not recommend anything near 120 degree separation between speakers. You are quite right - I am not sure where I got that idea - that is way too far apart - I don't think I have ever seen them setup that way - my bad!
DON'T GET IT ...screen too large = eye strain??? I agree. I don't like to sit front row at a movie. Interlacing and with only 24 frames a second and with films with excessive movement make it uncomfortable to sit too close.
How can we settle for digital? Or will you stand up for your $3000+ CDP? Is it just polishing a turd?$3000 just to "polish a turd"?Anyone considering a $3000 Hi-Fi purchase as "polishing a turd", might also need this.
Idiotic Vertical Biamping Question An amp doesn't "think" about what it sees. It only sees what it's hooked up to and that is it. Sorry Arthur but Descartes proved you wrong a long time ago, "I think therefore I amp"!
Dunlavy SC IVA X-over resistor values My comment was that in a "far-field" a narrow dispersion design type of design can be tricky with placement. I believe Dunlavy recommended placing some of his designs on the long wall, far apart at 120 degrees, and toed in- this is closer to "head...
Dunlavy SC IVA X-over resistor values Shadorne, I've read your response a couple of times and it does not make sense to me. What you hear is a combination of direct and reverberant energy. The 10 msec rule is for precise imaging - getting a fix on where a sound came from, however, yo...
Single driver speakers - opinions I suggest you investigate older designs such as Hartley/Lowther etc. - old whizzer cone designs or stuff used in car audio. Don't expect great linearity and bear in mind you will be forced to compromise between high levels of distortion/ringing/br...
20 bit players vs. 24 bit players Limited advantage unless some digital processing is done - in which case the extra bits help.Main advantage is in upsampling - this helps improve filtering and can reduce jitter if done well.
Time to change. But to what? I just heard my friend's system with the Dynaudio S5.4 today, and again, I was very impressed. I have a major feeling I will end up with either the Dyns or the Wilsons. Dynaudio make their own drivers. Very high quality and are good at loud witho...
Used speakers for $3k? Oh the confusion ATC SCM 35 and Bryston 4B ST (both second hand of course) will set you back $3K. This will play Pink Floyd quite well and very loud. Alternatively - horns - Klipsch for example - but I read that you are concerned about a "shrill" sound? Anyway - i...
Dunlavy SC IVA X-over resistor values if DALs have a narrow dispersion then why is distance and angle from the sidewalls so critical, as well as the reflectivity of these walls? Precisely because they have narrow dispersion!Narrow dispersion speakers, when listening far-field, are ty...
Dunlavy SC IVA X-over resistor values DAL's have narrow dispersion. You need to pay precise attention to exactly where you position your head when listening and making A/B comparisons. A few inches may change what you hear when listening critically. Typically it is recommended to plac...

Time to change. But to what? WOW. I actually heard some things I didn't know were there on the Telarc recording of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. Pretty impressive. Not sure which version you heard but this Romeo & Juliet was done using ATC speakers - if you like that k...
The space between the speakers Here is a good example of what to do: Eric's System In this case the speakers are slightly in front of the edges of the screen - this means there is no edge diffraction from a sharp edge, as the TV vertical edges are in the acoustic shadow of the ... |
