Gallo vs. Quads ESL 57
Gioivanni,I suspect you are going to find it tough to retain the exquisite qualities you have fostered but add the authority you crave (you may have to give in the midrange to gain some authority)
binding post break in
Binding post break in?ROTFLMAO You guys can all laugh...but my local S&M club takes this very seriously. If you ever got badly chaffed wrists then it is no laughing matter!!!
Remarkable systems on a budget
Pedrillo,Unfortunately you misspelled the last word in the subject of your thread. It's spelled B-U-N-G-E-E not B-U-D-G-E-T ;-) Anyway here is my favorite remarkable system! (Sorry, I could not resist playing a little pun and poking a little fun!)
small ish floor standers WAF 5-8K
If you liked the Totem speakers sound then try to audition Dynaudio. I suspect that Totem Forest may use a copy of one of Dynaudio's drivers. Remember imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and Totem had great success using Dynaudio high qual...
what is a good dac how is the ps audio dac111
Assuming you want it for two channel listeing - I'd look for one that has a reputation for good jitter reduction/immunity and then pick the flavor that works best for you. However, it seems a shame to have a McIntosh quality built and expensive pr...
DAC recommendation
Just a thought but you may be better served by a good DSP Preamp rather than buying several two channel DAC's.
Jitter reduction, best device?
Hens, the bottom line is that with a DAC which doesn't reclock or reduce jitter (AN 1.1X Sig.) this jitter reduction device made a significant difference. Interesting. Your observations suggest that for those connecting gear through digital interf...
Can we go back to 33's please?
LP = Long Play. I never had an awesome TT like you guys do but I used to buy roughly half of my music as 12" 45 RPM in the old days. Some of the best sound I EVER heard was from these 45 RPM's (perhaps I am being nostalgic). Part of the benefit is...
Quad ESL owners question
On the other hand, I've also heard the Maggies in other systems and they couldn't really play loud or have impact. That has been my experience and I am sorry that my generalization clearly does not apply to you or Bob. My excuse is I never heard ...
Is there a truly musical multiple CD player?
Musclebt, I'd suggest to mention to your friend that California Labs is no longer in business and that this is quite an old player. Just thinking about "repairs" and the age of the mechanical tray system and that a used one may have been abused/ja...
One Pre to Rule them All?
You can get away with it but I would not recommend long runs with RCA. You'll get better sound quality if you stick to short lengths or go XLR with balanced outs - it is not just a matter of noise but also amplifier power - XLR balanced preamps ca...
Quad ESL owners question
Bob,Your system is totally awesome. However, I'd say that the shear size of your speakers is indicative of what I was alluding to when I generalized that good panels have great ambience, midrange second to none but are less well suited to higher S...
Are contact treatments worth the money?
Gorilla Glue works well on Banana plugs. Duck Tape works well on wing nuts but there is nothing like silicone for tweeters ;-)
MIT cables and super tweeters
I recall that MIT speaker cables tries to even out the power factor through the addition of filters. This relies on the assumption that audio equipment are supposed to work with an even power transfer. It is an interesting idea but I am not sure h...
Quad ESL owners question
most "box" speakers sound "boxy", whereas panel speakers do not have box calibrations. I agree in the sense that a great panel is wonderfully devoid of coloration in the midrange. However, MrTennis how would you describe the sound of kick drum and...
