How to fix my detailed, accurate but BRIGHT system
A PEQ will do the trick if you can't stomach acoustic treatments.
Amp damping factor?
This comes up regularly. A factor of 50 is enough. A factor of 500 means very little in terms of added advantage over a factor of 50. (Remember if you impedance drops to 2.6 ohms at the lowest point then 50 will still get you adequate damping but ...
Best Rock Albums in 2009, so far
Try Booker T - Neil Young & Drive By Truckers : Potato Hole . Every track is good and the sound is awesome (not compressed like Dave Mathews recent effort) - this is one that can go into heavy rotation.
It's Hammond B3 Organ Day
There is really some amazing chemistry going on here. Booker's laid back style seems to really contrast to the aggressive guitar riffs by the Truckers. Raw Funk at it's best. Drummer is rock solid on the beat - Brad propels things along like a jet...
It's Hammond B3 Organ Day
Booker T. Jones has a new release titled "Potato Hole" check it out. I intend to. Meanwhile check this out WDR Big Band & Maceo
How to fix my detailed, accurate but BRIGHT system
Forget cables - just get a PEQ and cut at 2Khz around 3 to 6 db and you'll be a happy camper. (Your room is too bright, your music is probably compressed and harsh sounding etc. - never mind the reason, most harshness comes out around 2 Khz - if y...
Can even a Novice hear differences in Sound Qualit
There is an organization fighting the horrible compressed modern sound. So you CAN do something constructive about it. Many artists are becoming aware that their fans don't like the horrid sound of their work.
Speaker cabinet construction..
All the VSA speakers make great music regardless of price point, and tend to outperform speakers costing magnitudes more Agreed - they are indeed exceptional value and that is their main strength.
Scanspeak 10" driver replacement - blown woofer
Shadorne, Have you ever dealt with Madisound? Of course they have clerks who take orders, but they also have an excellent technical staff, some who have been in the industry for a long time. No I have not. I get stuff from Solen. You are probably...
Do You Hear Print-Through on Trinity Revisited?
It may be pre-echo from the adjacent groove which is common enough on Vinyl and can happen when cutting masters for stamping (print-through is an issue with analog tapes and it can affect BOTH vinyl and digital if the effect has its roots on the A...
Scanspeak 10" driver replacement - blown woofer
As several others have correctly pointed out - if you can't easily (& cheaply) get the exact same model driver then it would be sensible to go with Vandersteen for repair in order to keep your speakers standard (better resale as nobody wants t...
JL Audio f112 or f113 sub?
FWIW The CS3.4 has a lot of bass already so the main benefit may be to supplement it for two channel and to protect your mains when listening to movies with heavy bass. An F113 should get you around 110 db SPL clean usable LF in your room. That sh...
Using stereo and 5.1 receivers on same speakers?
Get a good quality DSP - feed your TV cable box BD or whatever digital to the DSP and use the passthru analog two channel with your CD player.High end DSP's are not all bad like they were 10 years ago and many have dedicated good quality two chann...
JL Audio f112 or f113 sub?
It depends mostly on your SPL level needs. 1 F112 might be enough, if not go for 1 F113 and if still not enough go for 2 F112.
Scanspeak 10" driver replacement - blown woofer
With cheaper drivers you should simply replace them with new drivers. Make sure you get the same model driver. Only high quality drivers ($500+ each) are usually worth re-coning.
