Has anyone used any of the Escient music servers.
You would probably best served with a Mac Mini or Apple TV and burn your collection to iTunes. I have not gone this route so I can't speak from experience but worth investigating.
Setup vs. Amp/Preamp choice?
I can't quite follow the OP. Do you have a question? Or are you trying to tell everyone they are a bunch of maniacs that hold endless discussions?Do you agree?Agree to what? And exactly how does your post different from other endless discussions? ...

For those who do not know what they are missing here is a taste. That ain't Maceo...that's Fred Wesley. A legend on the trombone and it is pretty obvious from this clip why. (If you are not a musician then you may not realize how extremely difficul...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
Nevertheless, I believe there's no substitute for listening, and for tuning a system according to one's tastes. Haven't you done this, or have you stopped experimenting because of your belief in engineering and specs (no disrespect intended here....

Marty,I agree with My name is Maceo - It is a great DVD for those who like funk. It is a film documentary that has great music and is also fun to watch - these artists are mostly down to earth yet brilliant performers (a big contrast to Sting "Bri...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
To the customers of this equipment, nice sounding is everything.Good point. I think one needs to be aware of both valid philosophies and make one's choices accordingly. I can't tell where the OP's preferences sit but hopefully both the technical ...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
Then, the next step is to determine what sounds best *to the listener*. In the end, that's all that matters. I think we all agree on this but "try 'em out and see" is not helping to increase understanding. (I am sure that Cam will take this for g...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
It would be a concern if the outputs of a pro-oriented source component, or a pro-oriented equalizer or processor, were fed into the line-level inputs or tape inputs of a consumer-oriented preamplifier Exactly. If you use a Benchmark DAC1 with th...

“Line-level” signal level for consumer audio equipment is nominally -10dBV (0.32V RMS). However, “line-level” signal level for pro-sound equipment is +4dBV (1.23V RMS). Simply put, pro audio gear is looking for a 14dB higher signal level.Anyone wh...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
I would add that XLR circuits use higher signal levels - so better signal to noise or more dynamic range.

Huey Lewis and the News "Live at 25" is absolutely awesome sound quality.I have had the CD for a while and decided to get the DVD. Well I am very impressed. This is an extremely enjoyable DVD and the band is very tight. Bill Gibson (drums) is fant...
how far do you sit from your speakers?
I'm well off the back wall nearly 10ft or so. unless you meant due to the chair back being above my head a little bit. Then you are in an excellent position. The head rest on a recliner will not have much effect if it is soft and rounded. A high ba...
how far do you sit from your speakers?
As I lay back the chair, or keep it upright, the presentation alters. Noticeably. Not surprising - when you get close to a wall there is significant variation in sound quality reaching your ears. It is especially noticeable in the bass. The other ...
how far do you sit from your speakers?
Yes you need to be sitting well away from any wall - 2 feet is a minimum - 4 feet or more is best.
