Just got the PS Audio Perfectwav DAC -- Amazing
From what you say it seems the PW might be a better match to your amp. 1) Perhaps it has a better output stage than the Transporter and you are getting more dynamics?2) If you are not using a preamp then how were you controlling the Volume with ea...
Tight accurate midfield monitor pair suggestions
PMC IB2S is another great option but it is way above your budget.Have you considered Barefoot MM27? Double your budget but they are active so no need for a beefy amp...
Tight accurate midfield monitor pair suggestions
I can casually talk without having to raise my voice at all to talk to the clients while listening at 10-12 ft in front of the speakers. At 12 feet back you lose 12 db. Asuuming you want at least 10 db of headroom then you are going to need a dec...
Speakers to build a $6500 system around
Regarding Energy Veritas 1.8, I will definitely keep my eyes open for these. However, you think these can play on par with VR4jr's? You appear to like Energy and tHE 1.8's are a reaL GEM.

ATC SCM 20 - based on your description this is exactly what you need - used by Telarc and countless other studios. They have enough SPL to do midfield.

Why not look for a pair of used Energy Veritas 1.8
MOSFET
Kind of no brainer if you want good performance, reliability and high power.
Merlin VSM compared to ATC 100ASL active
They are both excellent speakers. I don't think the comparison is fair though - rather different animals. Merlin is two way and ATC is three way. You would be better to compare the Merlin to an Active ATC SCM20 or passive SCM20 Tower. The Active 1...
Do you plan to buy The Beatles CD remasters?
I have heard some Beatles being played in HMV - it sounded new and all jazzed up. I suspect they were previewing some of the new masters (like movie trailers).FWIW: It sounds awful it is like everything sticks out too much and there is no subtlety...
Best way to save cd collection?
Rocky,I am interested in the answers to your thread. I am looking at the same thing. Issues are1) Large collection2) Lossless storage3) accurate ripping 4) Back up (I am thinking RAID 1 - which means everything is duplicated on two drives to ensur...
Has anyone used any of the Escient music servers.
You would probably best served with a Mac Mini or Apple TV and burn your collection to iTunes. I have not gone this route so I can't speak from experience but worth investigating.
Setup vs. Amp/Preamp choice?
I can't quite follow the OP. Do you have a question? Or are you trying to tell everyone they are a bunch of maniacs that hold endless discussions?Do you agree?Agree to what? And exactly how does your post different from other endless discussions? ...
DVD music concerts
For those who do not know what they are missing here is a taste. That ain't Maceo...that's Fred Wesley. A legend on the trombone and it is pretty obvious from this clip why. (If you are not a musician then you may not realize how extremely difficul...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
Nevertheless, I believe there's no substitute for listening, and for tuning a system according to one's tastes. Haven't you done this, or have you stopped experimenting because of your belief in engineering and specs (no disrespect intended here....
DVD music concerts
Marty,I agree with My name is Maceo - It is a great DVD for those who like funk. It is a film documentary that has great music and is also fun to watch - these artists are mostly down to earth yet brilliant performers (a big contrast to Sting "Bri...
