Speakers in 10-15K price range for Classical music
ATC SCM 50 Actives will do the trick - there is a used pair for sale in your price range (Gordon Holt's Estate - he also liked classical and Panels). ATC are close to Quad panel midrange clarity yet will still do justice to Mahler or rock.
An honest opinion about upgrading?
Your power amp is not well suited to drive these speakers. S-8 has very low impedance of around 2.5 Ohms. I'd get some serious power if you want more clarity
active speaker system, ideally child friendly
From your perspective, is the KRK/SVS/NHT system worth double the NHT only system? Yes. You could also get some omnimounts for the speakers and connect them to the wall and keep them out of the way. FWIW: A pair of VXT8 might be another way to go...
I have 1500 cds
You will need about 600 Gigabytes if you store them lossless.
New Beatles remasters
The overdub rumor is false Is it?
Your favorite cd of Hammond B-3 organ ?
Booker T and the Drive by Truckers Potato Hole is a MUST buy. An awesome new release by a legend.
Beatles Mono Boxes Good news more on the way
Will the high demand for the MONO old 60's masters make record labels think again about the poor quality of modern "state of the art" compressed & loud sounding pop music that they sell? Duh? Wake up call! Perhaps there is a reason for declini...
Beatles Remasters: Mono vs. Stereo Debate Thread
In my last post I should really say more natural LESScompressed sound of the older material - because they were already using tubes and analog tape recorders to perform audio compression - even in those days!
Beatles Remasters: Mono vs. Stereo Debate Thread
Barrelchief, as of now, mono versions are only available by purchasing the boxed set. Originally limited to 10,000 sets in the USA, now supposedly issuing 50,000 mono boxed sets. Given that the MONOS seem to be in hot demand and are generally reg...
New Beatles remasters
It is so dynamic and clear and exciting to hear the bass, different guitar parts, and Ringo's drumming Ringo is a much better drummer than I thought, and Paul is a much better bass player than I ever dreamed. The early albums have kick drum and ba...
Why so few high end line arrays?
Darkmoebius,You are correct. You have to design line arrays carefully to take into account lobbing and nulls. They work very well when properly designed and will ensure a higher SPL reaches further out into the audience at a sports or rock arena e...
volume level and xlr
It is possible your amp is expecting pro audio levels on the XLr and therefore it is atenuated somewhat when you use XLR with a device that does not output pro audio (+4 dBU).Roughly speaking, consumer uses cheaper components and runs at (10 dbV =...
Why so few high end line arrays?
Tbg,This is audiogon. Laws of physics are very often suspended here. Our favorite products do everything perfectly with no drawbacks or compromises to our favored designs. ;-)For those with line arrays, this explanation is one of the simplest I ha...
Smallest speakers that ROCK
Barefoot MM27 HxWxD 20.5 x 9.5 x 15.25 inches are small but can definitely rock. Heavy but compact and will really do justice to a drum set.
New Beatles remasters
In any case the monos are freaking amazing, just need to light some incense and twist one up....Yes I posted on another thread - the Monos are the ones to go for unless you need audio compression to hear things clearly (if you are using an iPod o...
