Sennheiser replacement cables Fatparrot, you're right that if you try to drive the 600's directly from a Zune, iRiver or iPod the results aren't very satisfactory but there are quite a few small heaphone amps with 1/8 jacks that work fine with a portable player as a source.
Sennheiser replacement cables Yes, Osgorth, really. I have two headphone amps, one with a 1/4 jack and the other with a 1/8 and I use the 600's with both. According to the Sennheiser USA site, the 600 comes with a 1/8 plug and an adapter to 1/4, as did the now discontinued 580...

Suggestions for small shelf sytem.... A less expensive alternative to the Arcam and Linn is the NAD L-53. Paired with Usher S-520's to make a $1,000 retail price system, it was very impressive at the price. There's a refurbished L-53 listed right now at a good price.
Which budget integrated for Triangle titus? I'll third the recommendation for the Audio Refinement Complete, it's beautifully built and sounds wonderful. The other brand of relatively inexpensive integrated I've owned and enjoyed a lot is Creek.
Apple iPhone Sound Quality? Haven't heard one but there's a long comparison piece in the latest online version of MacWorld. Here's one quote:"Listening: The iPhone sounds as good as any iPod youve ever owned. Mine plays through the portable speaker systems Ive connected it...
Convert MP3 CD to CD-R. Yes, it's easy to do with most programs designed to manage music files, like iTunes, Toast or any of the others. Specifically, you need to convert the mp3 files to AIFF format. As Rwwear said, they'll still sound like mp3's but you'll be able to p...
Vintage NAD 3080 I've owned a number of integrateds in your price range and the ones I liked the best were the Audio Refinement Complete and the Creek 4330R. I listened to a Rega Brio quite a bit, as well, and was very impressed at the quality for the price.
The Importance of Audio Furniture I'm sure that a solid stand with no resonance would have some effect on the sound but in my situation convenience trumps that consideration. I've got an all-metal rack from IKEA that I like better than anything else I've had for one reason, it has...
Why is the volume so low on my computer speakers? If you really like the speakers you could add an amplifier between the computer and the JBL's. I'm sure there are lots of options, one would be to get one of the little Sonic Impact chip amps at $25 or $30. It's advertised as having 15 watts but i...
Stax soul jag Siliab, in 1972 I went to see the Rolling Stones in Fort Worth on one of the stops of the 'Exile on Main Street' tour, unaware that the two opening acts were the Staple Singers and then Stevie Wonder. The Stones were a decided anticlimax, if they'...

sealed bookshelf advice, to pair with jolida 1301 -Another small, front-ported monitor that's very good at the price is the Usher S-520. Here's a Stereophile review.-
Need help with wiring new Paradigms? A great, inexpensive banana connector is from a company called Knukonceptz and they're sold on ebay in sets of four for $2 each. They're gold-plated beryllium copper, have two set-screws per terminal and are the BFA-style that give you a lot more ...
Digital vs Analog output on CD players There are two primary parts inside each of your CD players, a transport that picks up the digital signal and then a digital-to-analog converter. When you use the digital output on either the NAD or the Rotel you're picking up the signal after it le... |
